Hunter Biden’s legal troubles could decide father’s presidential fate: Puck News reporter

Mounting frustration with President Joe Biden’s abysmal leadership has many Democrats longing for a change at the top of the 2024 ticket, but the ultimate factor in whether or not he will choose to run for reelection may come down to his son Hunter’s ongoing legal problems.

At least that’s the opinion of Tara Palmeri who pens “The Washington Mall” newsletter for Puck News and on Friday, she joined Teddy Schleifer on the progressive “The Powers That Be: Daily” podcast where she discussed the possibility that the deeply unpopular leader won’t run again, putting the chance at 50-50.

“Let’s be honest, it’s not just what our Democratic, you know, powers that be in Washington think, the national polling shows that 70% of Democrats don’t want Biden to run again. I think that Joe Biden will wait for as long as possible,” Palmeri said.

One of the polls that she may have been referring to was a CNN poll released on Tuesday that a supermajority of Democrats wants to move on from Biden with a staggering 75 percent of those who responded wanting to see a different candidate at the head of their party.

And a just-released Gallup poll shows that Biden now has the lowest approval rating EVER for an elected U.S. president at this stage, going all the way back to when polling first began in 1954 when WW II hero Dwight D. Eisenhower was in the White House.

“If the Democrats lose the Senate and the House, that’ll be really bad,” she continued. “OK, they’re gonna lose the House and there’s gonna be a lot of soul searching and blah, blah, blah.”

She added, “If they lose the Senate too, that will be really, really difficult  and I could see that there would be a lot of pressure on Biden to announce that he’s not gonna run for reelection, it’s gonna be a dark time in the Democratic party between November, January, February, real dark right?”

“Plus, you’re gonna have all these investigations into Hunter Biden. There’s, you know, reports that the Justice Department is looking at indicting him.”

“It’s just gonna be a dark time,” she said. “It’s not gonna be good for his family. You know, Jill Biden will be the one who ultimately decides I think — and for all my sources say, he’s really unlike a lot of candidates, he truly is a family guy.”

Not only is there the slow drip, drip, drip of media reports detailing the material on Hunter Biden’s “laptop from hell” including drug use, engaging in depraved acts with prostitutes and sleazy foreign dealings, but the Justice Department could be forced into charging him if for no other reason, to put forth the perception of being even-handed, especially if indictments are brought against former President Donald J. Trump which AG Merrick Garland has now indicated is possible.

There is also the likelihood that Republicans will commence investigations into the younger Biden if they do win back control of Congress as many are predicting.

“He’s gonna be weakened, “she said, “and then I think you layer in the personal stuff on top of it. And that is what will be the deciding factor. If it was purely political, I think Joe Biden only knows how to run. That’s all he is been doing his whole life,”

“But I think if he sees — if he thinks that perhaps saying he’s not gonna run for reelection will get the Republicans to drop their terrifying investigation of Hunter. Here’s another thing, what if Hunter’s indicted?” Palmeri asked. “How can he run if his son is indicted?”
