Mayor Muriel Bowser calls in National Guard to deal with 4,000 illegal migrants bused into D.C.

Washington D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser is getting a taste of what it’s like to have her city’s resources strained by migrants who have been bused to the nation’s capital from border states and she’s calling out the National Guard as frustration mounts over the new arrivals to the nation’s capital.

According to media reports, the Democrat leader sent letters to President Joe Biden and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin last week requesting the activation of the Guard to assist overwhelmed locals with handling the human cargo on the buses that have continued to be sent by Texas and Arizona, two states that have been adversely impacted by the administration’s open borders policies.

In the letter which was obtained and published by NBC Washington, Bowser who has been a fierce advocate of unfettered illegal immigration described the situation as a “humanitarian crisis” that has reached a “tipping point” as she begged the man most responsible for flooding the nation with the migrants for help.

“The migrant crisis facing our city and our country through cruel political gamesmanship from the Governors of Texas and Arizona must be dealt with at the federal level,” she wrote according to the letter which was dated July 22.

“The pace of arriving buses and the volume of arrivals have reached tipping points,” wrote Bowser. “Our collective response and service efforts have now become overwhelmed.”

“With pledges from Texas and Arizona to continue these abhorrent operations indefinitely, the situation is dire, and we consider this a humanitarian crisis — one that could overwhelm our social support network without immediate and sustained federal intervention,” the letter reads.

On Thursday, Bowser held a press conference during which she passed the buck to the federal government.

“We are very focused and we continue to be very focused on having the federal government do its part and take the lead in addressing what we see as a growing humanitarian crisis,” she said, “with people who are seeking asylum, coming across the country to get on to their final destinations and we’re gonna continue to pursue federal involvement.”

“I’ve also asked the secretary of the Army to deploy the D.C. National Guard to help lead that effort,” the mayor said.

Reactions poured in after the news about Bowser’s request broke.

“DC Mayor—rightly—calls massive influx of illegal aliens a ‘humanitarian crisis,’” Republican Senator Ted Cruz of Texas wrote on Twitter.

“She says w/ 4000 arriving in DC, we’re ‘at a tipping point,’” Cruz said. “If 4000 is a tipping point, what the hell do you call the THREE & A HALF MILLION illegal immigrants who’ve crossed our southern border??”

“D.C. has not received a response as of Thursday,” according to NBC Washington.

“D.C. is experiencing a fraction of the disastrous impact the border crisis has caused Texas,” tweeted Texas Gov. Greg Abbott. “Mayor Bowser should stop attacking Texas for securing the border & demand Joe Biden do his job.”

Other responses to Bowser’s drastic move.

Governor Abbott issued a statement on Thursday following the news of Bowser’s calling out the troops, saying that Texas will continue sending buses of migrants to her city.

“Washington, D.C. finally understands what Texans have been dealing with every single day, as our communities are overrun and overwhelmed by thousands of illegal immigrants thanks to President Biden’s open border policies. If the mayor wants a solution to this crisis, she should call on President Biden to take immediate action to secure the border—something he has failed to do,” he said.

“The true ongoing humanitarian crisis is along our southern border. The Biden Administration is allowing historic levels of illegal immigrants, weapons, and deadly drugs like fentanyl to surge into our state,” Abbott said. “Texas continues stepping up to respond to this crisis by deploying Texas National Guard soldiers and DPS troopers, building our own border wall, busing migrants to our nation’s capital, and now sending illegal immigrants back to the border.”
