Cheney teases Jan. 6 committee subpoena of Ginni Thomas, dishes on 2024 WH decision

Despised “Republican” Rep. Liz Cheney, a member of the Jan. 6th committee, said on Sunday that she’s ready and willing to subpoena Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas’ wife, Ginni.

She offered the remarkable admission while being questioned by CNN’s Jake Tapper.

“Ginni Thomas, the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, repeatedly corresponded with then-White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows and Trump lawyer John Eastman,” Tapper said. “She was writing to them about efforts to overturn the 2020 election results, not to mention her correspondence with Arizona lawmakers pushing fake electors. Is your committee planning on talking to Ginni Thomas, even though her lawyer has expressed a reluctance to cooperate?”

“We are. The committee is engaged with her counsel. We certainly hope that she will agree to come in voluntarily. But the committee is fully prepared to contemplate a subpoena if she does not. I hope it doesn’t get to that. I hope she will come in voluntarily,” Cheney replied.

“We have certainly spoken with numbers of people who are similarly situated in terms of the discussions that she was having that you mentioned,” she continued. “So it’s very important for us to speak with her. And, as I said, I hope she will agree to do so voluntarily. But I’m sure we will contemplate a subpoena if she won’t.”

What exactly did Ginni Thomas do? She supported former President Donald Trump’s courtroom effort to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election. That’s it.

Specifically, both prior to and after the Jan. 6th riot, Thomas emailed various top White House officials, including then-President Trump’s own staffers, urging them to do more to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election.

These emails have already been reviewed by the Jan. 6th committee.

“The committee has email correspondence between [Thomas] and former President Donald Trump’s election attorney John Eastman, as well as texts between her and Trump White House chief of staff Mark Meadows,” according to CNN.

“The texts show [Ginni] urging Meadows to continue the fight to overturn the 2020 presidential election results. Eastman and Meadows have also been subjects of the committee’s investigation.”

But for some reason, the committee demands to know more. Know more of what exactly? It’s not clear.

In addition to trying to persecute Thomas, the left has also set its eyes on her husband, Justice Thomas, arguing that he deserves to be impeached in part because of her belief that the 2020 presidential election wasn’t on the up and up.

Leftists have even put up an “Impeach Justice Thomas” petition:

“The right-wing rigged Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade last week, effectively taking away the right to privacy and bodily autonomy that’s been considered legal precedent for the past 50 years. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas—who sided with the majority on overturning Roe—made it clear what’s next: to overturn high court rulings that establish gay rights and contraception rights,” the petition reads.

It continues by complaining about Thomas having “voted against a Supreme Court decision to compel the release of Donald Trump’s records regarding the January 6 insurrection and attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election.”

The petition claims a conflict of interest based on his wife’s harmless emails.

“It has become clear that his wife—longtime conservative activist Ginni Thomas—was actively urging the White House to overturn election results both leading up to January 6 and after the deadly insurrection,” the petition reads.

“Thomas’ failure to recuse himself warrants immediate investigation and heightened alarm. And it’s only the latest in a long history of conflicts of interest in the service of a right-wing agenda and mixing his powerful role with his conservative political activism. He has shown he cannot be an impartial justice and is more concerned with covering up his wife’s coup attempts than the health of the Supreme Court. He must resign—or Congress must immediately investigate and impeach.”

Apparently, urging officials to work harder to legally challenge the results of an election counts as committing a coup. Who knew? Certainly not Democrats …

Regardless, Cheney’s Democrat base responded to her remarks on CNN by urging her to hurry up and subpoena (and maybe even arrest) Thomas, pronto.

Look:

Cheney is scheduled for a primary election next month against a Trump-backed candidate. All signs point to her losing “bigly.”
