In a troubling new development in the probe of Hunter Biden’s business dealings, sources have told CNN that federal investigators are “reaching a critical decision point in their probe into whether to bring charges against the president’s son and that concerns about the upcoming midterm elections could weigh heavily on the decision.
According to anchor Jake Tapper, sources told the network that while no final decision has been made that potential charges may include tax violations and lying about a gun purchase, neither of which would involve the vast web of international corruption that the drug and sex-crazed first son was allegedly involved in.
Tapper was joined by CNN reporters Kara Scannell and Evan Perez and during Wednesday’s edition of “The Lead” where they discussed the timing of charging Biden, a major concern of Attorney General Merrick Garland as well as Justice Department guidelines pertaining to politically charged investigations close to elections, especially this one which is of enormous importance to his father’s agenda.
“Kara, the investigation started off pretty broadly including possible money laundering, campaign finance and foreign lobbying violations, it seems like investigators have narrowed it down?” Tapper asked Scannell.
“Yeah Jake,” she responded, “so sources tell Evan and I that the investigators now are focusing their focus on looking into possible tax charges and also possible false statements related to the purchase of a firearm by Hunter Biden.”
“Now this is still a fluid situation and no final charging decision has been made but it’s fairly common for investigators to look broadly at something and then focus on what their best evidence is and what they can prove before a jury,” she added, “so you know, this is still something that is being discussed among the Justice Department officials but our sources are telling us that they are nearing a decision on Hunter Biden, we should know it has not been accused of any wrong doing and he has denied any wrongdoing saying he thinks that once the investigation is over, he will not be charged with anything.”
CNN’s report was greeted by a strong response on Fox News where host Jesse Watters talked with former federal prosecutor Jim Trusty about the “lowball treatment” of Hunter Biden and the lesser charges that don’t pass the smell test.
“I’m really concerned about the story that came out because it is a lowball treatment of Hunter Biden. You know, 80 or 90% of federal white collar cases Jesse, include the word conspiracy,” Trusty said. “We’re now reduced to hearing about a tax case and a rinky-dink gun case, which means by definition, one person, and they’re talking about, I think, coming up with the right timing for a soft plea for Hunter Biden to have very little consequences.”

“And the other part of the story that I thought was very disturbing, very interesting, is they quote or they say at least that federal officials are really fretting over whether his drug addiction was a defense in these cases,” he added. “Well, you know, drug addiction might factor in when you’re in a barroom brawl, right, whether you have an intent to kill in that knife fight. But for economic crimes, you’re talking about complex economic crimes spanning months or years. It’s ludicrous.”
Nationally syndicated radio host Clay Travis offered up his take on charges against Hunter Biden with his opinion that it’s all about Trump.
“Prediction: The DOJ is going to charge Hunter Biden with crimes so they can then charge Donald Trump with crimes and claim they aren’t doing so for political reasons and are just fairly and impartially applying the law,” he wrote.

“The charges against Hunter will come in reality because Democrats have decided Joe Biden is worthless & they need to force him out of running again in 2024. The charges against Trump will make him more likely to run, but Dems hope to mortally wound Trump in primaries with charges,” Travis added in a second tweet.

He could be onto something, with the J6 committee set to wrap up its work with a nationally televised primetime extravaganza on Thursday night, the ball will be in Garland’s court on whether charges will be brought against Trump. If the two “rinky dink” charges are also brought against Hunter Biden, it would provide perfect cover for the media to claim that the show trial was fair and square.
