MSNBC’s Tiffany Cross dedicated an entire segment to the “fall of democracy” that she says is underway, comparing the nation’s citizenry to frogs slowly boiling in water.
She suggested that the United States may have been doomed to fail all along due to it being “built on stolen land” with “stolen labor.”
“All right, are you guys familiar with that urban myth that if you put a frog in a pot of boiling water, it will instantly bow, but if you put it in a pot filled with pleasantly tepid water and gradually heat it, the frog will remain in the water until it boils to death,” she said on Saturday’s episode of Cross Connection. “That is a fitting metaphor for our democracy right now.”
America is NOT a democracy. It IS Constitutional Republic.

“As our democratic norms erode within America, we must wonder, will this democracy survive? A Yahoo News poll says no,” Cross continued, referencing a poll published Thursday that showed more than 50 percent of Democrats (55%) and Republicans (53%) agreed that America is “likely” to “cease to be a democracy in the future.”
“But perhaps when you build a nation on stolen land with stolen labor, it was never going to be a republic we could keep,” she said. “So let’s talk about the possible fall of democracy and what, if anything, can be done to keep it.”

MSNBC political contributor Jason Johnson chimed in and claimed it was “white nationalism” driving the possibility of civil war.
“In many countries, a civil war manifests itself by having large sections of the country that cannot be managed or controlled by the central government. That is something that is possible in the United States,” Johnson said.
He dove a little deeper into what he believes could be the impetus for civil war including “white nationalism” and “militant groups” that are “beginning to train, beginning to expand, beginning to get political leaders in office,” who could potentially not recognize the “validity of the Joe Biden administration.”
Liberal author Elie Mystal pushed a theory that the white supremacists “MAGA crowd” already have control of the courts and are conducting a subversive civil war on paper, pointing to the overturning of Roe v. Wade as proof.
“We understand that when these people take control of the courts they don’t have to go to the street fighting. We have a case coming up in the Supreme Court next term that will legalize – this is what people need to understand about what they are going to do,” Mystal fear-mongered. “It will all be legal. The insurrection, if you want to call it that, the war, the authoritarian takeover of our nation, it will be made legal by the Supreme Court.”

“When you see the, shall we say, tepid reaction to the court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson, if you see the willingness of people to accept Supreme Court announcements without fighting back, you see everything in place for the court to retroactively give legitimacy to any civil insurrection or authoritarian takeover of ourgovernment.”
“They’re not gonna have to fight, they gonna have everything in place to do it ‘legally,'” Mystal said with air quotes around “legally.”
