Crazed abortion rights mob turns on FL Dem looking to challenge DeSantis, who beats hasty retreat

On Saturday, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ lead 2022 opponent, Democratic Rep. Charlie Crist, unintentionally got a sour taste of the crazed left-wing mob that his side of the aisle has for years fostered.

According to reports, Crist and other Florida Democrats showed up in Tampa this weekend for their annual Leadership Blue conference. Across the street from their conference meanwhile, the conservative group Moms for Liberty held their first national convention.

Not surprisingly, Moms for Liberty’s convention attracted young, unhinged pro-abortion protesters angry over anything and everything.

“The large crowd of mostly young protesters first held an abortion rights rally in Lykes Gaslight Park before marching in the middle of the street and gathering in front of the hotel where the Moms for Liberty conference took place,” local station WUSF reported.

Watch:

Here’s where story takes an unexpected but quite serendipitous turn.

After the Leadership Blue conference concluded its events for Saturday, the Florida Democrats inside made a beeline for their cars.

But not Crist. He instead decided to approach the protesters to try to show them some love. But hilariously enough, they weren’t feeling him.

Some Democratic politicians leaving their conference, including state Sen. Janet Cruz and gubernatorial candidate Charlie Crist, tried to shake hands with protesters and address the crowd, but they too were shooed off,” WUSF reported.

Watch below as the protesters turned on Crist:

“Voting blue is not enough, Democrats we call your bluff!” they yelled at Crist as they followed him to his car.

Say hello to your base, Mr. Crist …

Though these unhinged protesters weren’t always his base. Crist in fact used to be a Republican who served first as Florida’s attorney general from 2003 to 2007 and then later as the state’s governor from 2007 to 2011.

During his last full year in office, however, he apparently had a suspiciously timed change of heart when his attempt to run for a Senate seat fell by the wayside.

“Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, determining that he can’t win the Republican primary for U.S. Senate, has decided to exit that race and run in November’s general election without a party affiliation,” The Wall Street Journal reported at the time.

Two years later, he endorsed then-President Barack Obama and formally joined the Democrat Party, prompting criticism from his former Republican peers.

“In recent weeks, Republicans have increased their criticism of Mr. Crist and have pointed out that he had been critical of Mr. Obama and once described himself as a Republican in the mold of former President Ronald Reagan and Mr. Crist’s predecessor as governor, Jeb Bush,” The New York Times reported.

Four years later, he ran for a House seat and won it, thus officially becoming a Democrat politician:

To be fair, the signs were always there.

“The roots of Crist’s demise as a Republican superstar sprouted almost as soon as he took office. He revoked nearly 300 appointments by predecessor Jeb Bush, hailed Al Gore and teachers union leaders, and embraced Democrats’ calls to mandate paper trails for voting machines,” as reported back in 2010.

“He ran for governor and was nominated and elected as a conservative. After he was elected he went on an ego trip and began to believe he was more popular and more important than his party and his principles. It was all about Charlie — the cult of Charlie,” Roger Stone, who lives in Florida, said at the time.

He’s since become a far-leftist, it would appear.

Albeit a confused one, because while he’s fighting for so-called “reproductive freedom in Florida,” he still purports to hold the pro-life views of his past.

Asked in a CBS News interview two months ago what’s changed between his abortion views of the past and his abortion views now, he said, “Nothing.”
