The investigation into the allegations from 2021 that Customs and Border Protection (USCBP) agents whipped Haitian migrants trying to cross the U.S. southern border illegally was concluded and no evidence of any such offenses were found.
As can be expected, however, mainstream media is hesitant to amend their premature vilification of the agents in question, instead hoping that Americans have short memories and will simply forget – and in many cases they are probably right.
The announcement from USCBP came last Friday and CNN, MSNBC, and NBC all declined to cover on air the new information, for that would mean an admission of dangerously incompetent journalism on their part. But no matter the findings, President Biden has vowed in third-world fashion to punish the Border Patrol agents anyway.
“To see people treated like they did, horses barely running over, people being strapped — it’s outrageous,” Biden told reporters at the time. “I promise you, those people will pay. There will be an investigation underway now and there will be consequences. There will be consequences.”
“[DHS’ Office of Professional Responsibility] found no evidence Border Patrol agents involved in this incident struck anyone with their reins intentionally or otherwise,” CBP Commissioner Chris Magnus said at a press conference Friday. He also clarified that agents were at no point carrying whips.

According to transcripts reviewed by Fox News, no on-air reports were issued from Friday through Tuesday morning by CNN, MSNBC or NBC. CBS briefly mentioned the story during an evening newscast, but they focused mainly on the possibility of administrative punishment for the agents and made no mention of the fact that the Haitian migrants were never whipped. CNN and NBC News ended up finally covering the story but only online.
Among the usual suspects who routinely operate with false narratives aimed at advancing the agenda of the Biden regime were MSNBC’s Joy Reid, CNN’s Don Lemon and Victor Blackwell, NBC’s Morgan Chesky and MSNBC’s Alicia Menendez. All were quick to further the debunked accusations even when faced with a statement by the photographer who took the pictures that he saw no whipping took place and thus his photos were misinterpreted.

In light of Friday’s report from USCBP, Cornell Law School professor William A. Jacobson said he believes news agencies have an obligation to update their audience when new information comes to light, though there is little hope for that if history tells us anything.
“The alleged ‘whipping’ incident was major news at all the networks and major publications. Now that it has been definitively determined that there was no ‘whipping’ and that it was both fake and manipulated for political purposes, the networks should report on the findings,” Jacobson told Fox News Digital. “They can’t unring the fake news bell, but they can mitigate the effects of their own reporting.”
DePauw University professor and media critic Jeffrey McCall said many such news outlets maintain a “poor track record of following up on stories,” particularly when they are found to be initially wrong.
“Part of that is just the ebb and flow, hit-and-run nature of journalism, but much of it is the news industry’s unwillingness to acknowledge mistakes and commit fully to accuracy,” McCall told Fox News Digital.
“News organizations ran full speed with the story of Border Patrol supposedly abusing migrants when the images of the officers on horseback first appeared. The sensational video overwhelmed the news agenda and little attempt was made to put the story in full context at the time,” McCall continued. “It is another case of journalism of omission now that major news outlets are ignoring recent developments that CBP found no evidence to support the initial media condemnation.”
