Temperamental Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios melted down during a crucial match at this year’s edition of Wimbledon on Sunday, going off on the chair umpire over a heckler who was distracting him and sending “700 drinks” trending on Twitter.
The action went down during the third set against Novak Djokovic who had won the last three Wimbledon titles, losing his composure during what was the biggest match of his life, one that he would go on to lose.
The Aussie who is notorious for his volatile temper which has earned him the nickname of “Nasty Nick” attempted to make the case to umpire Renaud Lichtenstein that he was unable to concentrate, accusing the boisterous fan of being intoxicated.
“She’s distracting me when I’m serving in a Wimbledon final!” Kyrgios said in an exasperated appeal. “There’s not a bigger occasion! You didn’t believe me, and then she did it again, and it nearly cost me the game. Why’s she still here? She’s drunk out of her mind in the first row speaking to me in the middle of the game. What’s acceptable?”
"She's the one who looks like she's had 700 drinks, bro."

“So kick her out,” he shouted at the umpire who said that he didn’t know which fan Kyrgios was referring to. “It’s the one in the dress, the one that looks like she’s had 700 drinks, bro!”
Tennis legend John McEnroe, a man who had more than his share of heated encounters with umpires during his career and who was a part of the ESPN broadcasting crew joked that Kyrgios just may have been exaggerating, “It might be only 500.” he said.
The visibly rattled Kyrgios was also caught on camera shouting at his box during the match.

The hot-headed competitor from down under never seemed to regain his cool, losing the third set and then the fourth and Djokovic celebrated his fourth Wimbledon win in a row and his seventh overall, a rewarding moment for the Serbian star who has had his share of recent problems, being banned from events in several countries due to his choice to not get jabbed with the COVID vaccine.
“It’s weird. I felt like he didn’t do anything amazing today,” said Kyrgios according to ESPN, “But he was just so composed. That’s what I was just thinking to myself. In big moments, it just felt like he was never rattled. I feel like that’s his greatest strength, he just never looks rattled,” ironic remarks considering his own ugly meltdown in crunch time.
In the post-match press conference, Kyrgios didn’t blame his loss on the woman who he accused of having 700 drinks but that her heckling didn’t help.

Djokovic who is only one Wimbledon win short of the legendary Roger Federer who has eight may not be able to participate in the upcoming US Open in late August because of his vaccine status and prohibitions against un-jabbed foreigners from entering the country.
“I’m not vaccinated,” he said on Sunday, “and I’m not planning to get vaccinated.”
Twitter reacted to the day’s events including Kyrgios’ meltdown and Djokovic’s victory.
If that Wimbledon spectator really has had 700 drinks there today, she must be very rich.

“Nick, such a great effort. What went wrong out there?”
“Well, everyone in my box just choked. I need them standing and fist pumping for 4 straight hours, they failed me. The lady who had 700 drinks threw me off. And I didn’t like the look on the umpire’s face, to be honest.”

Congratulations to Novak Djokovic, 7 time Wimbledon champion.
Absolute disgrace he is banned from competing at the US Open, depriving Americans of seeing a legend purely due to the political agenda of the Biden administration.

The ball is in Biden’s court, will he allow Djokovic to compete or not?
