The tide of lawlessness that has washed across the nation since the summer of 2020 when politicians, celebs, sports leagues and corporations took sides against law and order during the violent riots that erupted after the unfortunate death of George Floyd has created an increasingly dangerous environment for the police, especially in Democrat-controlled areas.
Few cities have spiraled into anarchistic mayhem more deeply than Chicago where it is open season on cops as was evident over the long Independence Day holiday weekend when mobs menaced law enforcement who, in addition to having no support from local officials, are badly outnumbered by mobs that have been emboldened by the absence of consequences for their malicious actions.
One of the more terrifying incidents of the weekend of rage went down early on the morning of July 3 when an Illinois state trooper found himself in hostile territory in the vicinity of the Windy City’s downtown area.
At about 2 a.m., the officer was driving south on Interstate 90 near Division Street when he noticed that traffic was backed up on the exit ramp and that eastbound traffic on Division was completely stopped, according to Fox 32 Chicago.
The trooper then drove toward the intersection of Division and Elston Avenue where he observed multiple vehicles blocking the intersection and “people engaging in reckless driving stunts, police said,” the outlet reported.
Then all hell broke loose as a mob comprised mostly of angry young men suddenly materialized, reportedly surrounding his vehicle which they pelted with debris including bricks and rocks, and launched fireworks at the vehicle.
“Chicago, we got a mob – he just jumped on my car,” the surrounded trooper said over his police radio as a scene reminiscent of a dystopian sci-fi or zombie apocalypse movie unfolded in real life as the horde, which was estimated to be as many as a hundred, swarmed with some jumping on top of the vehicle.
Many in the mob were seen laughing and smiling at their cornered prey as they filmed the incident on their smartphones.
Eventually, the vehicle’s windshield was shattered by a rock or brick, “Awe, he just broke my window! He just broke my window,” the officer said over the radio.
‘There’s probably 150 of them coming at me right now,’ the trooper says at one point. ‘Holy s***,” although he was able to eventually maneuver the vehicle out of harm’s way, escaping from the pack of attackers with his life intact.
The Illinois State Police have released the entire dashcam video of the mob attack.

“This type of dangerous behavior puts the general public at risk and will not be tolerated,’ the Illinois State Police said in a statement. “ISP is fully investigating the incident, including deploying crime scene evidence technicians.”
While the attack on the trooper was harrowing, it wasn’t the only aggression against police in Chicago over the weekend, a city where Mayor Lori Lightfoot has completely lost control.
