A Texas teenager has been taken into custody by San Antonio police on suspicion of planning a mass shooting at his workplace.
Rodolfo V. Aceves was a subcontractor at an Amazon facility where he let a female coworker in on his murderous thoughts on Friday, June 24th, NEWS4SA reported. After a fire alarm went off at the facility, the 19-year-old reportedly told her while they were making their way out of the delivery facility that a fire alarm was a good tool for a mass shooting because it forced people to leave the building, presumably so they all crowd together and make themselves easy targets.
“It would be a good idea to pull the fire alarm and have all employees exit the building and to commit a mass shooting,” Aceves said according to the arrest report.
Then he apparently told her a little secret: He was planning a mass shooting himself.
His coworker told authorities Aceves said “he will be doing it and he would commit a mass shooting.”

While she was giving Aceves a lift later, Aceves later told her that the Uvalde shool shooter was his “idol” and he was interested in what school her children went to so he would know which one to go shoot up.
Concerned with possible repercussions for tattling on her workmate, she didn’t immediately tell her supervisor. By Monday she had a change of heart.
“[San Antonio Police Department] Covert operations, along with the Street Crimes Unit, were able to quickly locate & detain the suspect,” police wrote on social media.

Aceves’ father confirmed to law enforcement that his son had a history of mental illness and was committed at the age of 16 to a mental health facility and that he had a recent prescription medication change although he had been on the drug for the past two years.
Knowing Aceves’ history, his father told authorities the family was scared of what he might do as well, especially given that he had an AR-15 rifle in his possession.
From the time SAPD received the initial call, to the time the suspect was in custody, was about a few hours. An arrest warrant was obtained, and the suspect, Rodolfo Aceves, was taken into custody for Terroristic Threats. Detectives seized an AR-15 from the suspect’s location.

Aceves was quickly arrested and charged with terroristic threats.
Police emphasized the importance of speaking up when something is awry, noting that if the coworker had not said anything the uncomfortable conversation could have turned into a tragedy.
“This case highlights the importance of community collaboration and appropriate responses. This is the essence of ‘see something, say something,'” SAPD wrote on Facebook. “If not for the witness who came forward, this incident could have resulted in a tragic outcome.”
