Kamala poo-poos AOC and Warren’s federal land for abortions option. She has a different plan.

Democrats are working overtime to ensure that the abortion industrial complex will continue to be able to operate despite the Supreme Court’s overturn of Roe v. Wade last week and plans are materializing to transport women seeking to terminate their pregnancies to states where the procedure hasn’t been banned.

Vice President Kamala Harris went on CNN to say that the Biden administration is “looking at” providing travel vouchers for women wanting abortions to circumvent Friday’s historic SCOTUS ruling, an idea that could be in violation of the Hyde Amendment which prohibits the use of federal funds to pay for abortions.

On a day when the horrifying news that an abandoned trailer containing the dead bodies of forty-six migrants was found outside of San Antonio, the nation’s border czar was talking about abortion with CNN host Dana Bash, an issue that is a top priority of the White House, despite the very serious problems that affect far more people such as record gas prices and the worst inflation in four decades.

“What about the idea of financial resources?” Bash asked. “Some form of voucher for travel, childcare services, other forms of support for people, for women seeking abortions in states where it’s not legal but they just don’t have the means to go elsewhere.”

Harris responded, “I think you’re asking a very important point, making a very important point which is what are the details that are going to go into ensuring the women have the ability to actually travel without impairment and we know that on this issue, women who have access to resources will probably be far less impacted by this decision than women who don’t have resources.”

“So this is something that we are looking at because we know, for example, in terms of how this is going to actually impact real people, over half of women who receive abortions in America are moms,” she said. “That means that if they’re going to have to travel, they’ve got to find daycare and pay for it.”

“It means that they will, if they are working, which most are, they’re going to have to have time from work and if they don’t have paid leave, they are going to have to figure out how to afford it,” Harris continued. “It means they may have to put up money for a train or a bus or a plane, much less a hotel, and so we want to make sure that there does not result extreme disparities or any disparities based on who can receive care based on how much money they’ve got.”

The veep also shot down – at least for now – calls from two shrill progressive lawmakers to set up abortion facilities on federal lands.

Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren told reporters that Biden should “explore just how much we can start using federal lands as a way to protect people who need access to abortions in all the states that either have banned abortions or are clearly on the threshold of doing so,” on Friday, she also called for the use of federal land during an appearance on ABC’s “This Week” on Sunday morning.

Additionally, Warren told Caroline Kitchener of The Washington Post that the administration could set up “Planned Parenthood outposts on the edges of national parks.”

“They could put up tents, have trained personnel — and be there to help people who need it,” she said. “It’s time to declare a medical emergency.”

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the noisy tail that wags the Democratic Party dog also called for abortion facilities on federal lands.

“There are also actions at President Biden’s disposal that he can mobilize,” AOC said at a Friday protest. “I’ll start with the babiest of the babiest of baby steps: Open abortion clinics on federal lands in red states right now.”

Bash asked Harris, “Can the administration expand abortion access or abortion services on federal land? Meaning provide the access on federal land that might be in and around states that ban abortion?”

“I think that what is most important right now is that we ensure that the restrictions that the states are trying to put up, that would prohibit a woman from exercising what we still maintain is her right, that we do everything we can to empower women to not only seek but to receive the care where it is available,” the vice president responded.

Bash asked again, “Is the federal land one of those options?”

Harris instead shifted the focus to the midterms, “I mean, it’s not right now what we’re discussing, but I will say that when I think about what is happening in terms of the states, we have to also recognize, Dana, that we are 130 odd days away from an election, which is going to include Senate races, right?

“Part of the issue here is that the court is acting, now Congress needs to act. If you count the votes, don’t appear to have the votes in the Senate,” she added. “Well, there’s an election happening in 130-odd days. For example, thinking of a Senate race in Georgia or North Carolina. There’s a Senate race coming up just in a couple weeks in Colorado. And we need to change the balance and have pro-choice legislators who have the power to make decisions about whether this Constitutional right will be in law.

“Right? We say codify. Put it in law so that there will be no ambiguity about it,” Harris said.
