The Los Angeles Police Department has reportedly arrested a man for attempted murder in an incident that occurred during a protest on Friday night in the aftermath of the U.S. Supreme Court Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision that overturned Roe v. Wade and returned abortion regulation to each state.
The suspect in question allegedly attacked a cop with a “makeshift flamethrower” in downtown L.A., according to KTLA. The officer in the incident received treatment at a local hospital for burns.
The 30-year-old suspect was being held on $1 million bail as of Saturday evening. Whether far-left Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascon, in the end, will choose to prosecute is another matter.
In another incident, a 23-year-old woman was taken into custody for allegedly trying to swipe an officer’s baton. Cops responded by firing a “less-lethal round” before she was apprehended. The LAPD said that the suspect could be charged with resisting arrest.
Numerous other arrests were reportedly made.
According to the LAPD, “The vast majority of those involved were peaceful and law-abiding, however, a much smaller group of individuals took to the streets with the intention of creating chaos and destruction…The Los Angeles Police Department has the distinction of facilitating First Amendment Rights for all Angelenos. Equally, the Department will enforce the law when individuals engage in violence. Those who expressed themselves peacefully today are appreciated and recognized by the Los Angeles Police Department,” Fox News reported.

Police Chief Michel Moore denounced the violence seen at the protests.
“I condemn the violence against officers that occurred last night and into today,” Moore said. “Individuals participating in such criminal activity are not exercising their 1st Amendment rights in protest of the Supreme Court decision, rather, they are acting as criminals. The Department will vigorously pursue prosecution of these individuals.”
In an early-morning tweet on Saturday, Chief Moore asserted that “I’m grateful today’s events were largely peaceful. Unfortunately some chose to enter the freeway posing a serious risk. Later a much smaller group fired pyrotechnics at officers. Our people strived to facilitate demonstrations while defending our people from dangerous assaults.”

In the non-peaceful part of the march, “Bottles, rocks and fireworks were seen thrown at officers,” KTLA added.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the LAPD declared the protest an unlawful assembly at around 9 p.m. local time and “warned protesters left in the area that they would be arrested and subject to the use of projectile weapons if they remained… most protesters had dispersed by 11 p.m.”
Democrat Gov. Gavin Newsom announced on Friday that “Abortion is legal in California. It will remain that way,” a nuance of which the protesters may be unaware. That will also be the situation in other blue states.

Protests also occurred in municipalities such as New York City, Washington, D.C., Portland, Seattle, Phoenix, and Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
