Maher reveals the issue that could help Trump sweep 2024 if he ‘could just let go of the election’

Comedian Bill Maher contended that former President Donald Trump may have a path back into the Oval Office in 2024 if he could just shake off his fixation on the 2020 election and fire his base up with current events like the left’s insistence of indoctrinating children into their gender-fluid ideology.

Maher argued in a panel discussion Friday night that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis had a “way better” edge over the 45th president for the upcoming 2024 presidential race, Fox News reported.

“And I just thought, you know, if Trump could just let go of the election, which he can’t, he can win this so easy because he can win just on Drag Queen Story Hour,” he noted on his namesake HBO show, “Real Time with Bill Maher.”

In a mocking protest of a potential Trump ticket, he quoted a New Hampshire poll that found voters were leaning 2 points more in favor of DeSantis over Trump.

“That’s right, Donny. He beat you,” Maher jeered.

“Again, if he could just let go of the election, but at this point, you know, he’s just like a hotel room that smells – at some point you just want a new room, you know what I mean?” Maher inquired. “And DeSantis, I mean, he’s just more vibrant, if you like people who don’t lose elections and, you know.”

Podcast host Katie Herzog agreed with Maher’s assessment of the potential presidential lineup for 2024.

“And he’s also not plagued by scandal the way that Trump is,” Herzog told Maher. “He’s a much stronger candidate. The Jan. 6 hearings have been very compelling to watch, but a little part of me thinks this might actually be bad for the Democrats, because if Trump is too weak to win the Republican nomination, it’s going to be DeSantis, and DeSantis could beat Biden.”

Maher argued that Republicans had the opportunity to nominate virtually any candidate with a pulse to take back the White House from aging President Joe Biden.

“Anybody could beat Biden,” Maher said. “Trump might be the one guy who can lose to Biden. With DeSantis, you’re right because he’s a winner. He runs the third-largest state. Trump is a hotel greeter who lost. His insurrection failed.”

Substack writer Andrew Sullivan responded with a theory that DeSantis has the potential to win a Republican primary over Trump more than “any of the Democrats” looking for a 2024 presidential bid.

“Who do they have? Kamala? She’d lose in a landslide,” Sullivan exclaimed.

Herzog agreed that “DeSantis has been able to govern in a way that Trump never has because he isn’t as plagued by scandal as Trump, which to me is more terrifying than the buffoon in the White House.”

“And he’s not nuts,” Maher cut in. “He’s way too conservative, but not nuts.”
