Dem lawmaker’s daughter, 17, dies at home days after he voices his ‘tremendous pride’ in her activism

Gwen Casten, the 17-year-old daughter of Democratic Representative Sean Casten of Illinois, has passed away according to the lawmaker’s office.

The death occurred on Monday at the family home, though no cause of death has been announced.

“This morning, Congressman Casten’s beloved daughter, Gwen, 17, passed away. The Casten family requests privacy, and we will be issuing no further comment during this heartbreaking time,” the statement read.

This shocking news comes on the heels of Casten discussing the “tremendous pride” he has in his daughter, who has been an activist in political circles and most recently organized a “Stop the Bleed” event at her school. The event teaches children how to pack wounds in the event of a shooting.

“I have both tremendous pride that my daughter took the initiative to organize that and tremendous shame that we as a country are making it the responsibility of children aged 15, 16 and 17 to do what sitting United States senators don’t have the courage to do themselves,” Casten said in an interview with Newsy earlier this month.

She was also active with the Illinois chapter of the pro-gun control group “March for Our Lives” and acted as a co-director for the organization.

Democrat Rep. Marie Newman, against whom Casten is running for a third congressional term, also issued a statement about the shocking and sudden loss of Casten’s daughter.

“My heart breaks for the Casten family for the devastating loss of their daughter. My prayers are with Sean, Kara, and the entire Casten family.” The Newman campaign also announced that they are “working to cease all comparative paid communications immediately.”

  7. Suicide or drugs; it’s a 60-40 toss up. The #1 cause of unnatural deaths of Americans under 21 is suicide. #2, car crashes which doesn’t apply here #3 drugs, # 4 murder, though less than half of those murders are gun related and also doesn’t apply here. Democrats are lousy parents.

  8. The majority of kids between 12 and 45 are dyeing from drug overdoses brought in over the uncontrolled southern boarder with fentanyl the main culprit.

  9. It does not take courage to advocate or go along with gun control. It is a very cowardly thing to do. It takes real courage these days to say “Hell no I’ll hold on to my God-given RIGHT to self-defense!”

  11. Very sad, and we’re seeing far too many deaths of young people in our country. Whether it’s the vax or the fentanyl, we owe our families much more than this administration who is doing their very best to kill us all.

    Strange they leave this open question. We may never know.

    1. If Covid were the cause it would have been the leading information of the story so we can toss that possibility out. Down to 2 possibilities and either one is a logical outcome for a Liberal. Either doping or roping to cope once they realize their opinions, purpose, and life are a sham.

    2. I think it is probably suicide or OD otherwise they would probably say. Is there any other way to die that they would keep secret? I mean if she had some weird brain bleed or was one of those kids with a bad heart. Or maybe and appendix bursting. Or if she had eating issues a few of those can bring on a sudden death. But none of them are shameful for those left behind. I am wondering if it will come out to be something that makes her dad’s political party look bad? Although I can’t think of anything it could be. Just odd to not say something even if it is just that they are still determining the cause of death.

  13. Did Casten`s daughter get the mRNA poison jab, or, jabs? If so, this may well be the cause of her untimely death….

  14. Not that it has anything to do with it, was she vaccinated or jabbed? So many mysterious unexplainable deaths.

    1. He had the Jab so I would imagine the whole Faimly had the Jab as well. Parent’s wants to do the best thing for thier Kid’s but this wasn’t good at all if that is how Gwen died. My Heart goes out to Gwen’s Parent’s. I lost my Son and there isn’t any hurt that would describe the hurt when you loose your Kid. So many KId’s are dying with different thing’s wrong with them and I would dare say 50% is due to the Posion Jab. God has her now.

  15. How terrible to lose a child. At 17 is terrible, and really at any age. A child should not die before the parent.

    I hope that no comments which are political and partisan will be made about this sad event.

      1. My Son Died of Brain Cancer and the Hurt you never get over. Reguardless what age they are I never dreamed that My Husband and me had to go through that, we are susposed to go first. My Son had two Boy’s and a Girl so he is missed very much and Loved. My Husband and Son are together fishing in Heaven.
