Justice Department to conduct ‘Critical Incident Review’ of Uvalde police response to school massacre

With questions continuing to be raised about the abject failure of the police response to the Texas elementary school shooting during which 19 children and two adult teachers were massacred in their classroom, the federal government has made a big step towards becoming involved.

On Sunday, the Justice Department announced that it has undertaken a Critical Incident Review of law enforcement’s handling of the situation after it was acknowledged that members of the Uvalde Police Department waited for over an hour to breach the classroom while 18-year-old Salvador Ramos was cruelly and methodically murdering children, leading to much speculation that lives could have been saved had they acted sooner and more appropriately.

According to a statement from DOJ spokesman Anthony Coley, “At the request of Uvalde Mayor Don McLaughlin, the U.S. Department of Justice will conduct a Critical Incident Review of the law enforcement response to the mass shooting in Uvalde, Texas, on May 24.”

“The goal of the review is to provide an independent account of law enforcement actions and responses that day, and to identify lessons learned and best practices to help first responders prepare for and respond to active shooter events. The review will be conducted with the Department’s Office of Community Oriented Policing,” the statement reads. “As with prior Justice Department after-action reviews of mass shootings and other critical incidents, this assessment will be fair, transparent, and independent. The Justice Department will publish a report with its findings at the conclusion of its review.”

MSNBC’s Yasmin Vossoughian stressed that it was important to note that the Critical Incident Review was not an official investigation.

“I want to reiterate right, this is not them saying they are launching an investigation, this is an incident review by the department, an investigation could subsequently come next if in fact, they find that wrongdoing… if in fact, they find that the police department should have gone in sooner,” she said.

The Justice Department’s announcement came on a day when President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden traveled to Texas where they visited a makeshift memorial that was constructed outside of Robb Elementary School where the children were slaughtered as well as met with the grieving families of the victims.

Attorney General Merrick Garland briefly remarked on the tragedy from Harvard University where he was speaking at the school’s commencement ceremony on Sunday.

“As we gather today to celebrate this milestone in your life, we are also holding on to an enormous amount of grief because of yet another mass shooting at another school in our country,” Garland said. “An unspeakable act of violence has devastated families and the entire community in Uvalde, Texas. I know I speak for all of us here that our hearts are broken.”

Initial reports that the police acted accordingly with active protocols were inaccurate, leading Texas Governor Greg Abbott to express his extreme displeasure, saying that he was “livid” that he had been “misled” about the law enforcement response.

“And here’s my expectation, my expectation is that the law enforcement leaders that are leading the investigations which includes the Texas Rangers and the FBI,” Abbott said at a Friday press conference, “they get to the bottom of every fact with absolute certainty. There are people who deserve answers the most and those are the families whose lives have been destroyed, they need answers that are accurate and it is inexcusable that they may have suffered from any inaccurate information whatsoever.”

The Justice Department’s involvement could help with getting those answers.

  1. I don’t believe anything will come out of the investigation, only a bunch of smoke and finger pointing, and bullshit spin .

  2. This is all political aby the DOJ and FBI. Everyone in Uvalde (the world) now know mistakes were made during the Uvalde shooting. Maybe we don’t know every little detail, and the information management by law enforcement was really bad, but there was an 18 year old kid with a semi-automatic rifle (AR-15) who entered the school through an unsecured and open door.

The DOJ won’t talk about it but in both the Sandy Hook shooting and in Uvlade a young man (18 to 20) with either diagnosed mental problems or major social problems got their hands on an AR-15 (in Sandy Hook the shooter took his mother’s AR-15) and in Uvalde the shooter was able to purchase the AR-15 himself. They both lived in a household with just them and their mother (or grandmother) and both, immediately before the shooting spree, shot their guardian mother (grandmother). For them to do that demonstrates MAJOR mental/psychological problems by the shooters.

That is depraved and clearly manifest some kind of terrible sickness. They were both loners and interacted on the internet with other sicko’s who were into cruely shooting other innocent people, much like an Islamic terrorist bomber or an abortion doctor.

Some 3,500 years ago God gave Moses 10 basic rules for the Hebrew people to live by (all people for that matter). It starts with beleiving in and loving God, honoring and obeying God and your parents (i.e., don’t murder them) and then exlicity states Thou shalt not commit murder. Maybe someone should point this Supreme law out to the DOJ for consideration during their investigation. I think it would help them tremendously to know and understand these basic Western Civilization principles.

But, the DOJ is not interested in that. They are interested is trying to find small frys to blame for the mistakes made by government officials and then politically conclude that it was the evil inanimate object, the gun, that was the cause of the shootings.

Neither the DOJ, FBI any Democratic President or Administration will never be able to remove the 300,000,000 hand and other guns that exist out there in the USA. At least, not until the one known as the Man of Lawlessness in the biblical teachings arrives with his/her supernatural powers of evil.

  3. 2nd screw up for recent tragedies, I think the parents can take it from here. We already have one stepping up to the plate. DOJ too corrupt and blinded by self righteousness and to eager to push ridding freedoms.

  4. Well then, nothing will come out of that, unless it was a fault of a white person. This is a bias and corrupted government.

  5. I have to ask: under what authority is the federal DOJ investigating an incident in Texas, that has nothing to do with the federal government? Texas has their own oversight bureaucracy to investigate wrong-doing of the police.

  6. “… questions continuing to be raised about the abject failure of the police response…”

Like it or not, and I’m in the not camp, there is the following to address. The growing body of case law establishing that government agencies — including police agencies — have no duty to provide protection to citizens in general. In the cases DeShaney vs. Winnebago and Town of Castle Rock vs. Gonzales, the supreme court has ruled that police agencies are not obligated to provide protection to citizens. When all the finger-pointing and virtue signaling is over it is time to address this problem.

  7. The DOJ is going to investigate and then they will have a meeting in the Oval Office, where Joey will tell them what they found. This act was carried out by a right wing conservative white supremest, end of story. Remember, Joey doesn’t want the truth, he wants political advantage. Oh, and because of that he’s going to sign an executive order to confiscate all privately owned guns. Second amendment be dammed.

  8. just another step in going after the 2nd Amendment -its easy to it in judgement after an incident -we won’t there and while we have more information now they didn’t

  9. Excellent Book: “Red, Black, White: The Alabama Communist Party 1930-1950” by Mary Stanton.
Washington D.C. has protected and defending roots of Communism thru lies, force, monies, so long it is incomprehensible that they would change trajectory. This is why you have BLM, Antifa, Gangs running wild. Understand in Cuba the “Black Brigade” terrorize communities with the blessing of omnipotent State! Washington D.C. went after Klu Klux Klan but protected Communist invasion. Indeed. Now Washington D.C. has taken your families, sexes, doctors, properties, speech, right to travel, pillaged your treasury, promoted foreign national invasion, now your 2nd Amendment, and they use negro and minorities to do it!

  10. Can the DOJ just enforce all the laws on the books and quit being dimwit Joe’s lap dog for injustice??

  11. Woke; and idiots who promote it are to blame.

If men were allowed to be men this little punk would have had is butt kicked until he could find “normal” many years ago.

Police forces have been neutered. They are sensitivity trained to act more like choir girls than real men. “Waiting for the janitor to give them a key” My long passed American friend that served under Patton in the Battle of the Bulge would not have been impressed. What has happened?

Trudeau and his horsemen in Canada riding over old ladies in walkers and throwing old men almost 80 years old to the pavement and hurting them badly for political viewpoints; this is what you woke idiots have produced.

There is only one thing we the people can do. If there are those at your workplace who are “woke and vote “woke” get rid of them.
    You can find better people.

Play at their level; accuse them of every crime imaginable, before they do it to you.

    Make the woke pay.

  12. Problem is, the justice department, under the direction of democrats, is every bit as incompetent and useless as the cops under investigation. And quite corrupt. They’ll find what they want to find, and it will likely have little to do with the truth. The gun will be 90% at fault, republicans the other 10%.
