Newly released footage purports to show vehicles among those in a single-file Russian convoy of about 35 tanks and armored vehicles headed for Kyiv, Ukraine, being blown up by a counter-attack and retreating.
The Ukrainian military reportedly released the drone video of the armada near Brovary, an eastern suburb of the war-torn country’s capital city.
“The video, filmed from the air, appears to show Russian tanks and vehicles caught in an ambush, with several being destroyed or damaged by artillery strikes or mines. Analysts said that the convoy included a thermobaric rocket launcher vehicle, which Russia has deployed in Ukraine to ‘devastating’ effect, according to the Ministry of Defense,” the Times of London reported.
“Stuck in a bottleneck, with tanks grouping tightly together, explosions are then seen striking the convoy, while they try to take evasive action.”
Newsweek claims that an audio track indicates that the convoy’s Russian regimental commander was killed in the encounter. Russia has not yet provided confirmation of the fatality.

The rocket launcher reportedly has the capability of firing what’s described as vacuum bombs which “suck in oxygen to create a high temperature fireball and can cause internal organ damage, including to the lungs,” the Times claimed. Russia has reportedly confirmed that it has deployed this weaponry in the war in Ukraine.
Although there is ongoing spin from both countries on social media and in the traditional media as they jockey for political position, reports have suggested that Russian Federation President Vladimir Putin did not anticipate fierce resistance from Ukraine when he decided to invade.
According to some critics, the corporate media and those in the neolib and neocon cohort appear to be very enthusiastic in getting the U.S. directly involved militarily in the ghastly and tragic eastern Europe conflict, which has resulted in thousands of casualties so far and millions of refugees fleeing Ukraine. The consequences of that kind of escalation could be catastrophic for the world.

In a Twitter message on Thursday, Dmytro Kuleba, Ukraine’s foreign minister (roughly equivalent to the U.S. secretary of state), seemed lukewarm about the results of his sit-down with Russian government counterpart Sergey Lavrov that took place in Turkey.
“In our meeting with FM Lavrov mediated by @MevlutCavusogluI insisted on the urgent need to allow humanitarian help for Mariupol and a 24-hour ceasefire. Unfortunately, FM Lavrov seemed to have come to talk, not to decide. I hope he will convey Ukraine’s requests back in Moscow.”

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has separately expressed confidence that Putin will eventually come to the bargaining table.
One of the primary issues that touched off the conflict is Ukraine’s potential membership — which Putin opposes — in NATO, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Earlier this week, Zelenskyy told ABC News that “Regarding NATO, I have cooled down regarding this question long ago after we understood that NATO is not prepared to accept Ukraine.”
