A federal jury has convicted a Texas man of multiple criminal charges for his role during the January 6, 2021 chaos in Washington, D.C. when pro-Trump protesters fought with police and briefly occupied the U.S. Capitol on the day when the Electoral College vote in the 2020 election was to be certified by Congress.
Guy Wesley Reffitt, 49, of Wylie, Texas was found guilty of obstruction of an official proceeding, entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds with a firearm, two counts of civil disorder, and obstruction of justice; he faces decades behind bars for his actions.
Reffitt, who is a member of the Three Percenters, an anti-government militia group, reportedly led the way for the storming of the Capitol.
“His mission, according to the evidence, was to stop Congress from acting. He was specifically targeting Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. At one point, Reffitt’s camera recorded him saying, “We’re taking the Capitol before the day is over,” according to a Justice Department statement.
In a video that was a government exhibit in the case against him, Reffitt boasted that “I don’t care if Pelosi’s head’s hitting every step while I drag her by her ankles, she’s coming out.”

He is the first to be convicted in the infamous day’s events, setting the stage for the hundreds who have been charged by the federal government.
Reffitt “climbed a banister, led the mob up staircases outside the Capitol building, and kept advancing on the officers holding the police line, even as he was struck repeatedly by the officers’ less than lethal projectiles and O.C. spray,” according to the DOJ. “As he kept moving, urged others to keep moving forward, too. He eventually made it up the stairs to outside the Senate wing of the Capitol, as others breached the building, but he did not personally go inside. While narrating a video he recorded that day, he stated, ‘I said I wasn’t leaving till I got in there. I didn’t make it in there. But I started the fire.'”
The news was hailed by Rep. Liz Cheney, the treacherous anti-Trump congresswoman who is spearheading Nancy Pelosi’s sham committee on the J6 events, a job that allows Madame Speaker to maintain the narrative that the probe is bipartisan in nature.

Reffitt, who was arrested on Jan. 16, 2021, had boasted about his role in the “insurrection” and threatened his family. His son Jackson Reffitt, who was 18-years-old at the time testified against his father.
“He was terrified and ‘pretty grossed out’ when his father, Guy Wesley Reffitt, told him and his 16-year-old sister that they would be ‘traitors’ if they reported him to law enforcement after the Capitol attack on Jan. 6, 2021. And he told his children that ‘traitors get shot,’ Jackson Reffitt recalled,” according to the Dallas-Ft. Worth area’s NBC affiliate, “I never thought our father would say that to us,”
Reffitt is scheduled for sentencing on June 8, 2022.
“Each of the two obstruction charges carry a statutory maximum of 20 years in prison. The charge of entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds with a firearm carries a statutory maximum of 10 years. Each of the two civil disorder charges carry a statutory maximum of five years in prison. The charges also carry potential financial penalties. A federal district court judge will determine any sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors,” according to the Justice Department.
