An anti-Trump Republican who voted to support the creation of Nancy Pelosi’s committee to investigate the January 6, 2021 chaos at the U.S. Capitol has dropped his reelection bid in disgrace after a story broke detailing his affair with an “ISIS bride,” a career-killing lack of judgment that was reported by a conservative website.

On Wednesday, Texas Rep. Van Taylor paid the price for cheating on his wife, announcing that he was withdrawing from a primary runoff in the Lone Star State’s 3rd Congressional District against Keith Self, a former Collin County judge with the winner facing Democrat Sandeep Srivastava in November.

Details of Taylor’s sordid romance with Tania Georgelas who is also known as Tania Joya and who is described as “an ISIS bride who was liberated from Syria in 2013” were reported by the National File which posted an interview with her along with an image of an ultra-raunchy text message from the House member using graphic sexual language about what he wanted to do to her.

Joya was previously married to notorious jihadist John Georgelas, an American from Plano who converted to Islam and became a top recruiter for the Islamic state, traveling to Syria to join the radical cause to restore the Caliphate as a combatant, taking Joya and their children with him; he was killed in 2017.

Following her escape from Syria, Joya returned to Texas where she met Taylor during her work at a program to “reprogram” extremists, beginning the affair which “ran from October 2020 and extended through June 2021,” according to the National File which reported that “Georgelas admits that she initiated the affair when she told Taylor that she found him attractive.”

In another story, Breitbart News reported that Taylor paid Joya $5,000 in “hush money” based on documents that the “ISIS bride” provided to the outlet.

Taylor, a former U.S. Marine whose website describes him as a “family man” and who has three children, acknowledged the affair to supporters in a statement.

“About a year ago, I made a horrible mistake that has caused deep hurt and pain among those I love most in this world. I had an affair, it was wrong, and it was the greatest failure of my life,” he said.

Taylor drew the ire of many conservatives when he was among the 35 Republicans who joined with Democrats to establish Speaker Pelosi’s sham “insurrection” committee which now claims to have “evidence” of a criminal conspiracy implicating former President Trump and his associates, an explosive charge that could lead to an effort to disqualify the former president from running again in 2024.

According to a Dallas Morning News report, Joya reached out to Suzanne Harp, a candidate who was opposing Taylor in the primary, hoping that she would confront Taylor and that while “she didn’t intend to inject herself into the election and didn’t even realize the primary was five days away,” she was “annoyed at having to see her ex-lover’s face on billboards as she drove around Plano.”

“All I wanted was for Suzanne Harp to just say, ‘Hey, I know your little scandal with Tania Joya. Would you like to resign before we embarrass you?’ But it didn’t happen like that,” she told the outlet.

The Dallas Morning News reports that Taylor is expected to serve out the remainder of his current term which officially ends in January 2023,
