With the world on fire and Americans battered by an unprecedented confluence of domestic problems not the least of which is staggering inflation, House Democrats continue to show the nation what their true priorities are and, as usual, they are based in pure politics.
On Monday, House Democrats notched yet another big win with their bill to classify lynching as a federal hate crime, the latest effort to tap into festering racial resentments to energize a crucial demographic in an election year.
The bill, named after 14-year-old Emmett Till, a young black man from Chicago who was viciously murdered in 1955 during his summer vacation to Mississippi after being accused of offending a white woman, also drew nearly unanimous Republican support, passing the lower chamber by a vote of 422-3 on the final day of Black History Month.

The three dissenting Republicans were Rep. Chip Roy of Texas, Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky and Rep. Andrew Clyde of Georgia.
Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) who serves as the House Judiciary Committee Chairman said of the bill’s passage, “Our nation endured a shameful period during which thousands of African Americans were lynched as a means of racial subordination and enforcing white supremacy. These violent incidents were largely tolerated by state and federal officials, and they represent a stain on our nation’s legacy,”
“Today, we acknowledge this disgraceful chapter in American history, and we send a clear message that such violent actions — motivated by hatred and bigotry — will not be tolerated in this country,” he proclaimed.

The bill was introduced by Illinois Rep. Bobby Rush who said in a statement, “Today is a day of enormous consequence for our nation. By passing my Emmett Till Antilynching Act, the House today has sent a resounding message that our nation is finally reckoning with one of the darkest and most horrific periods of our history, and that we are morally and legally committed to changing course,”
The practice of lynching, a deplorable relic of the past from an era when black people really were hunted down and murdered continues to be a critical tool in the political toolbox of cynical Democrats, much like slavery and it is often invoked for its sheer emotional impact.
.@JussieSmollett is one of the kindest, most gentle human beings I know. I’m praying for his quick recovery.
This was an attempted modern day lynching. No one should have to fear for their life because of their sexuality or color of their skin. We must confront this hate.

It wasn’t a perfect day for Nadler and his fellow House Democrats though, as another piece of legislation, the similarly race-based “Creating a Respectful and Open World for Natural Hair” otherwise known as the CROWN Act didn’t fare as well, failing to draw the two-thirds vote needed for passage under the fast-track process due to GOP resistance, the total was 235-188.
Today, the House will vote on the #CROWNAct.
For too long Black women have been told their natural hair is unprofessional, exotic, or unruly. Let’s call this what it is – discrimination.

Nadler lashed out at Republicans, playing the “white supremacists” card and vowing to squash “GOP obstruction” when the bill is again brought back up, perhaps closer to the November elections.
First their members mingle with white supremacists, now @HouseGOP blocks the CROWN Act, a basic civil rights bill that explicitly prohibits race-based hair discrimination. We will bring this important bill back up and pass it despite GOP obstruction.

Many took to Twitter to express their emotions as the social media lynch mob saddled up to come for the Republicans who refused to fall in line.
Who were the 3 votes against the #AntilynchingAct tonight?👇🏾
Andrew Clyde, GA: Called the 1/6 insurrection a “normal tourist visit”
Thomas Massie, KY: Wrote a bill to allow guns in school zones
Chip Roy, TX: Called lynching an “example of justice”
All Republicans. Surprised?

Today, on the last day of #BlackHistoryMonth, 188 House Republicans blocked the #CROWNAct, our bill to ban race-based hair discrimination.
I'll make it plain: a vote against the #CROWNAct is a vote for racism—period.
This fight is not over.

Chip Roy, the bastard that Cory Branscum wants to defeat, was one of 3 Republikkkans who voted against the Emmett Till Anti – Lynching Bill.
There will always be some unapologetic sheet stitchers who can’t help their racism. Vote them back to the cornfields. https://t.co/JIde1YqCsB— Eyes Wide Open 🧢 (@VaTechPhiDelt) March 1, 2022

Despite their current demagoguery, Democrats have engaged in some lynching themselves, most notably the “high tech lynching” conducted against Supreme Court nominee Clarence Thomas during his confirmation hearings in 1991, a mob that was led by then-Senator Joe Biden.

Sadly, the Democrats have been so successful when it comes to weaponizing race for political gain that it will figure even more prominently in their efforts to retain total control over Congress now that they are on the verge of an electoral wipeout and they will almost certainly go scorched earth regardless of the damage to race relations in America.
