Fears over how far Russian President Vladimir Putin is willing to go to topple Ukraine’s government are growing amid incoming reports that, one, he’s “furious” at the resistance he’s faced, and two, he may be preparing to deploy “one of the most feared weapon systems in Russia’s conventional armory.”

The first report dropped early Saturday morning, when an Estonian politician who serves on the European Parliament posted a Twitter thread documenting incoming intelligence about Putin’s alleged current temperament.

Citing the words of an unnamed Ukrainian officer, MEP Riho Terras claimed that Putin is currently holed up in his “lair” in the Ural Mountains with the country’s top oligarchs, apparently ranting and raving about his losses in Ukraine.

“Putin is furious, he thought that the whole war would be easy and everything would be done in 1-4 days,” according to Terras.

Instead his forces have been met with fearless resistance from Ukrainian soldiers reportedly willing to literally sacrifice their lives to stop his army:

Making matters worse, according to Terras, is that the ongoing war is costing Putin $20 billion per day and that the Russian military is running out of supplies.

“There are rockets for 3-4 days at most, they use them sparingly. They lack weapons, the Tula and 2 Rotenberg plants can’t physically fulfil the orders for weapons. Rifles and ammo are the most they can do,” he wrote.

“The next Russian weapons can be produced in 3-4 months – if even that. They have no raw materials. What was previously supplied mainly from Slovenia, Finland and Germany is now cut off.”

Terras claimed that if the Russians fail to topple Ukraine’s government within 10 days, they’ll be out of luck and have no other option but to negotiate “because they have no money, weapons, or resources.”

Keep in mind the intelligence Terras received could be propaganda. Amid the current fog of war, there have been a number of instances of both parties — the Russians and the Ukrainians — making false claims.

What’s not in dispute, however, is clear video footage reportedly captured by CNN of a Russian “TOS-1 heavy flame thrower system,” code-name the “Buratino,” “being transported towards the Ukrainian border on Saturday.”

According to The Guardian, the TOS-1 “is one of the most feared weapons systems in Russia’s conventional armoury.” It’s specifically “a multiple launch rocket system mounted on the chassis of a T-72 tank capable of firing thermobaric rockets which use oxygen from the surrounding air to generate a high-temperature explosion.”

Suffice it to say, the TOS-1 is no laughing matter:

The Independent further notes that thermobaric rockets “are filled with a highly explosive fuel and chemical mix, which, on exploding can cause supersonic blast waves that can obliterate everything in its path, including buildings and humans.”

Because of the devastation they’re capable of inflicting, thermobaric rockets are also known as “aerosol bombs or vacuum bombs.”

Some also refer to them as the “father of all bombs”:

As of Sunday morning, Putin’s forces were still struggling to capture the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv. They’d reportedly also begun making an attempt to capture Ukraine’s second-largest city, Kharkiv, as well.

“Heavy fighting is underway in Ukraine’s second city as Russian troops entered Kharkiv in the early hours of Sunday morning. Major attacks overnight included a gas pipeline outside Kharkiv that was set ablaze by Russian troops, and an oil depot in Vasylkiv near Kyiv that was destroyed by a Russian missile strike,” according to The Independent.

“Toxic fumes from the explosion prompted the Kyiv authorities to ask citizens to stay indoors and keep windows shut. Kyiv otherwise appeared relatively calm, and remains under the control of Ukrainian forces, deputy mayor Mykola Povoroznyk said, although fighting is reportedly taking place just west of the capital.”

If Putin doesn’t capture Kyiv soon, and the intelligence obtained by Terras is accurate, he may soon have no other option but to bend the knee and negotiate.
