A Long Island Republican lawmaker who’s being challenged by a woman who purports to be a hardcore pro-Trump conservative is warning voters to be careful because she used to be a Democrat “mere months ago.”
According to incumbent New York Rep. Andrew Garbarino’s campaign staff, his 24-year-old challenger, Cait Corrigan, is specifically “a former registered Democrat activist who has a history of troubling anti-American rhetoric.”
The claim was made to the New York Post, which on Saturday published an extensive profile of Corrigan’s Democrat roots. But not included in the profile was any mention of the spark that inspired her to switch parties. More on that later.
What the Post did report is that, according to its sources, “she became a registered Republican mere months ago,” meaning her “GOP bonafides are relatively recent.”
The problem is that she has plenty of Democrat bonafides, though in fairness to her, some of the bonafides date back to when she was a mere teenybopper.
In 2008, when she was only 10 years old, the Long Island newspaper Newsday ran an entire story about her being “NY’s youngest Clinton worker”:
“A driving snowstorm had shut down most of Long Island, but 10-year-old Caitlin Corrigan-Orosco offered her mother a compelling reason to make an 18-mile drive from Patchogue to East Setauket. Hillary needed her,” the paper reported.
“That was last Friday, when backers of Hillary Rodham Clinton made phone calls from Brookhaven Town Democratic headquarters to Texas and Ohio, where key presidential primaries were held Tuesday.”
By then, she’d already spent two months “calling strangers and attending rallies to get out the vote.”
“Local Democrats say she is Clinton’s youngest volunteer in the state,” according to Newsday.
But in fairness again, she was only 10.
However, six years later in 2014, she worked as “an intern on environmentalist Adrienne Esposito’s unsuccessful campaign to unseat State Sen. Tom Croci (R-Sayville),” according to Newsday.
“Esposito, a Democrat, said Corrigan-Orosco opened mail, went door-to-door to speak with voters and was ‘extremely dependable’ despite being among the campaign’s youngest workers.”
Another four years later, as Corigan was studying theology in college, she wrote an essay “about her experience as a summer intern for the World Organisation Against Torture in Switzerland,” according to the Post. This essay contained an abundance of blatantly anti-American rhetoric.
“The United States of America, with our unanimous support and involvement within imperialism and global capitalism has notoriously led to the continual oppression, discrimination, and murder of marginalized groups of people and their culture from Tibet, Afghanistan, to Syria, Mexico, and Rwanda, Yugoslavia, to Palestine, Venezuela, Yemen, and Myanmar,” one section of the essay reads.
In the same essay, she asked, “How can we create peace in a country that was built on theft, genocide, slavery, and institutionalized misogyny?”
Yet only four years later, she now “promotes herself on her campaign website and social media as a Donald Trump-loving, staunch conservative who opposes vax mandates and ‘illegals’ entering the country – as part of the ‘next generation fighting for America first,'” according to the Post.
The contrast between her former self and current self is too much for some to bear:

Cait is a lifelong Democrat. She’s worked for multiple local Democratic campaigns.
As a matter of fact, she still a registered Democrat.
She’s also an opportunist, who thinks people will buy her chameleon act hook-line-and-sinker.

She’s not on the ballot yet. She’s also not a conservative. She’s a RINO if ever I saw one. She worked on democrats campaign to unseat a Republican and she created a curriculum to use social media to teach against white supremacy. Ya know, that big boogey man the left likes

FYI, some of the statements made by the critics above appear to be false. For instance, she’s no longer a registered Democrat. Furthermore, there’s no record of her having ever created a curriculum to teach about so-called white supremacy.
It’s possible that the user has mistaken Corrigan for the virulently anti-white woman below who shares a similar name:

All this said, there does appear to be a valid reason why Corrigan would have abruptly switched parties and turned into a Republican.
Last year, Politico ran a telling snippet about how Corrigan, whom the paper described as “a 24-year-old Boston University theology student,” was hosting online tutorials to teach folks “how they could avoid getting a COVID-19 vaccination by claiming it violates their religious beliefs.”
That same year, she sat down with the one and only Ronald F. Kennedy Jr. for a discussion on COVID vaccine policies:
This strongly suggests that the authoritarian COVID diktats imposed by Democrats was the straw the broke the camel’s back and pushed her to the right. Though to hear her tell it, she’s always had the soul of a right-winger lying within her.
She’s a “home-schooled constitutionalist, a Trump supporter and a patriot,” she reportedly proudly said in rebuttal to the allegations against her.
In another statement posted via Twitter, she also took a shot at the Post and Garbarino for obsessing over her past instead of thinking about the present and future:
How PATHETIC of GarbaRINO to attack me as a 10 year old in 2007.
I pity him & the establishment for this sad attempt at a hit piece.
I’m at CPAC working to #SaveAmerica from the communists & RINOs like GarbaRINO.
