Sen Hagerty demands Biden secure US border, reclaim energy independence with Putin on the rampage

Senator Bill Hagerty (R-TN) is calling on President Joe Biden to act decisively on the southern border crisis and return America to a state of energy independence in light of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and Vladimir Putin’s perceived machinations to rebuild the Soviet Union.

“Unprovoked, Ukraine is under attack from a brutal Russian dictator. As Americans, we pray for the people of Ukraine,” Hagerty tweeted. “The U.S. must demonstrate our strength by reclaiming our energy independence and securing our southern border.”

Several of Hagerty’s colleagues echoed his sentiment.

Rep. Jody Hice (R-GA) tweeted, “Vladimir Putin is an evil man desperately resurrecting an Evil Empire” on Thursday.

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) concurred and compared Putin to Joseph Stalin, describing his actions as “inhumane,” while Rep. Michael McCaul (R-TX) said the attack was the worst “since Hitler invaded Poland in World War II” during a Thursday morning interview on CBS.

Hagerty squarely blamed the invasion of Ukraine on the ineptitude of Joe Biden, who it has been said for decades is congenitally wrong on foreign policy, as evidenced most recently by the U.S. surrender in Afghanistan and the evacuation of two American embassies in just 13 months.

(Incidentally, one might wonder what the Ukraine military could do now with the tens of billions in American military equipment abandoned to the hands of the troglodyte Taliban.)

Hagerty also called on Biden to use the teaching moment to restore the U.S. southern border and regain energy independence, knowing especially that Russia’s hold on energy in Europe will likely only increase as they capture more territory and will necessarily have severe ramifications in America and across the globe.

He released the following statement Thursday on his official Senate website:

“Ukraine and its people are now under attack. The Russian dictator has brought war to the European continent. President Biden’s strategy to prevent this invasion has failed. Despite Ukrainian President Zelensky’s persistent call for pre-invasion sanctions, the Biden Administration chose to do nothing until it was too late and must now change course,” he said.

“I’m calling on President Biden to immediately demonstrate American strength by moving to reclaim our energy independence, secure our own borders, put in place safeguards to protect our critical infrastructure, impose decisive economic and financial hardship on Putin’s regime, work with our Allies and partners, including NATO, to boost Ukraine’s capability to defend itself, and strengthen NATO’s own defensive capabilities,” Hagerty added.

“President Biden must recognize the gravity and severity of this moment and do everything in his power to protect the safety and security of the American people,” the senator concluded.
