On a day that he was proven right that Russia would invade Ukraine, President Joe Biden was put on the spot over the failure of sanctions to deter Vladimir Putin from moving against the former Soviet territory as well as whether he underestimated the wily Russian leader.

Biden tore into Putin as he harshly condemned the invasion, vowing to increase the economic pain with even more sanctions. “Putin is the aggressor. Putin chose this war. And now he and his country will bear the consequences,” he announced while acknowledging the likelihood that battered Americans will suffer as well.

He also declared that “America stands up to bullies. We stand up for freedom. This is who we are,” emphasizing the message later via Twitter.

Biden also denied that he underestimated the former KGB man in response to a question from Fox News bulldog reporter Peter Doocy, a man whom the Commander in Chief called a “stupid son of a bitch” during a press conference last month.

Doocy asked, “The next question is, did you underestimate Putin and would you still describe him the way you did in the summer as a worthy adversary?”

Biden responded, “At the time, he was, I made it clear as an adversary and I said he was worthy, I didn’t underestimate him and I’ve read most of everything he’s written, did you read… I shouldn’t say… I’m not being a wise guy.”

“You’ve heard the speech he made,” Biden said, “almost an hour’s worth of speech on why he was going into Ukraine. He has much larger ambitions than Ukraine, he wants to, in fact, reestablish the former Soviet Union, that’s what this is about and I think that his ambitions are… completely contrary to the place the rest of the world has arrived.”

It was the second time this week that the POTUS has faced questions on whether he sold Putin short.

Biden was also put on the spot about all of his tough talk on sanctions during the Q & A, remarkably admitting that there was little expectation that sanctions would work, a direct contradiction to the insistence by other high-ranking members of his administration including Vice President Kamala Harris that they would.

Biden’s remarks sent White House press secretary Jen Psaki into damage control mode as she was once again forced to clean up her boss’s mess.

Reactions poured in from Twitter and they weren’t exactly favorable toward the “leader” of the free world.

Biden’s administration has piled up crisis after crisis but this one will have major ramifications both at home where Americans are already being bludgeoned by high energy prices as a result of his misguided policies and globally, especially now that it has become abundantly clear that the nation’s enemies have no respect for him.
