Sen Hagerty rips Dems for keeping doors locked on US Capitol, but plan to gather there for SOTU

U.S. Sen. Bill Hagerty (R-TN) is calling out the Democrat majority in Congress for their rank hypocrisy in allowing all members to attend the forthcoming State of the Union address on March 1st while keeping the U.S. Capitol closed off to American citizens.

“It’s remarkable that all 535 members of Congress and other government VIPs will be permitted to gather together for President Biden’s State of the Union address, and yet the U.S. Capitol and Senate office buildings remain closed to the American people. The Senate should lead on the re-opening of America. The people we represent should be infuriated,” Hagerty said in a statement.

South Carolina Rep. Ralph Norman will introduce similar legislation in the House.

While traditionally joined by invited guests, only the 535 members of Congress will be granted the privilege of watching President Joe Biden attempt to speak at length on his incredible accomplishments, and not without first adhering to COVID-19 precautions handed down from the attending Congressional physician.

Previously, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced limitations on attendance for Biden’s speech, but she has decided to allow the full complement of lawmakers to join her as long as each wears a KN95 or N95 mask and has a negative PCR test one day before the address, per guidance from the Capitol physician.

Those requirements, by the way, are more restrictive than what will be in place for the District of Columbia as Mayor Muriel Bowser has lifted vaccine mandates for indoor venues since Feb 15, and will reportedly lift mask mandates for the same on Feb 28. This will include restaurants and bars, houses of worship, grocery stores, and D.C. government facilities with no public interaction, among many others. It will not include schools, of course, because she can’t just stop the madness all at once.

Congressional members also “must avoid physical contact with other individuals,” Townhall reported, with non-compliance being punishable by removal from the premises.

As for Sen. Hagerty, earlier this week he attempted to pass a resolution to re-open the U.S. Capitol, but Democrats blocked it.

“Over 70,000 people attended the Super Bowl on Sunday. The rest of the country has re-opened to gatherings & regular business. It’s long past time for the Senate to do the same and pass my resolution to re-open the Capitol to the American people!” the lawmaker tweeted.

“The U.S. government serves at the pleasure of the people, who should be able to visit their Capitol building when they’re in Washington,” South Dakota Sen. John Thune tweeted. “Glad to join @SenatorHagerty resolution with @SenateGOP to say Capitol Hill shouldn’t be closed when the rest of America is open.”

And in a stroke of pure irony, the masks that have already been provided to the offices of members for use at the SOTU are all printed with “Made in China,” and on the outside of the mask to boot.

So, as BPR reported, it will be impossible for Joe Biden to tout success in at least one key area of his campaign and presidency:

“I’m not going to shut down the country. I’m not going to shut down the economy. I’m going to shut down the virus,” he declared in 2020.

Instead, on March 1st he will be looking out at a sea of masks, all emblazoned with a reminder that the Chinese Communist Party has his number.

The opportunities for ridicule are too many:
