‘Make it make sense’: The Academy slammed after announcing vax rules for elites attending Oscars

In yet another example of what appears to be rules for thee, but not for me, organizers of the Academy Awards ceremony apparently won’t require a COVID-19 vaccine card for elitist attendees even though staff has to get the jab.

“The Hollywood Reporter has learned, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is planning not to mandate proof of vaccination (with or without a booster) in order to attend this year’s ceremony. Instead, it intends to require a negative PCR test or a negative rapid antigen test on the day of the event,” the news outlet explained.

“The Academy…requires its own employees to be vaccinated (with rare medical exemptions)..,” THR added.

The Academy declined to provide THR with a comment on this scoop, but it seems some Hollywood luminaries in the very liberal industry have declined to get the shot, even though the entertainment sector, like practically all corporate entities, is aggressively pro-vax.

Corporations, as well as government agencies, have fired non-compliant workers.

“Some industry insiders have speculated that the Academy is being less stringent than it could be because more than a few high-profile industry figures — including at least one of last year’s acting winners and prominent members of the casts of multiple best picture nominees, as well as nominees in other categories — would otherwise be precluded from attending the Oscars,” THR claimed in the run-up to the event scheduled for March 27 at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles.

Although even triple-jabbed persons are testing positive for COVID, there is still time for the Academy to backpedal on the protocol,  and this may be a strategic leak, as it were, of a trial balloon.

The plan, as it stands now, is purportedly in “technical adherence” to Los Angeles Health Department minimum requirements

“The Academy has yet to publicly release its COVID policy for Oscar night, but unless it significantly changes between now and showtime, the organization can expect considerable blowback from some members of the community. ‘Shocking’ is how one highly connected industry insider, speaking to THR, described the Oscars’ willingness to accommodate anti-vaxxers,” THR noted.

As in previous years, most of America probably hasn’t seen any of the movies nominated for Best Picture and other honors, which at least partially explains why these self-congratulatory galas, which mainly promote fashion designers to the stars, have lost huge chunks of the audience.

Breitbart‘s John Nolte described the nominees, those that weren’t streaming on your home device, as box office flops, and constituting a mere exercise in self-importance and “bubbled narcissism.”

Pervasive identity politics and virtue signaling in the content also have prompted many Americans to tune out from the televised awards rituals.

The SAG Awards and the Critics Choice Awards are still, however, requiring vaccination proof to attend.

“Last year’s [Oscars] ceremony featured strict COVID-19 testing and masking policies for in-person attendees, in accordance with health and safety protocols,” Variety recalled about the 2021 scaled-down event.

Face masks could be an issue this time around.

Los Angeles County still requires masking for indoor public places and crowded outdoor “mega events” regardless of vaccination status. Even Democrats Gavin Newsom and breath-holding Eric Garcetti, the governor and mayor, respectively, have been caught flouting the rule.

“[T]he proposition of a sea of masked faces at the Oscars is less than the glitzy ideal the event has come to embody… discussions are still ongoing about masks and crowd size. There may be some wiggle room if the Academy decides to whittle the event’s guest list below 500 attendees,” Deadline Hollywood asserted, citing an insider.

Twitter is hardly celebrating the apparent celebrity privilege. Here is just a sample of the reaction as it is still rolling in:
