A study on natural immunity from Johns Hopkins University found that 99.3 percent of unvaccinated people who were previously infected with COVID-19 maintained antibodies against the virus for up to 21 months after testing positive.

The report was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) and Fox News medical contributor Dr. Marty Makary was on hand with Shannon Bream to discuss the report on “Fox News at Night” Thursday.

Makary noted that a common question he gets concerns natural immunity and “circulating antibodies” for which there exists a simple test, although it seems such news gets little traction in legacy media.

Bream asked, “How does that compare to vaccines? And if it’s equal to or superior to them, do you think that’s going to impact the mandates, the passports … people losing their jobs over the vaccine?”

Makary responded that while the vaccines are good against severe disease, antibodies are seen to diminish within a few months, but that “with natural immunity, that protection was better. It’s more durable, and that’s consistent with what the CDC found.”

He said we as a society need to be more precise in our language. Rather than viewing the population as vaccinated or unvaccinated, he suggests Americans should be thinking in terms of “the immune and the non-immune,” adding that people should respect one another and their personal medical decisions.

Makary and the many doctors involved in the study felt they needed to do it on their own, as the CDC wasn’t releasing their data on reinfections although they recently released data to California and New York after being hounded for it by those respective state governments.

The topic changed to masks and mask mandates, with Makary describing how the many doctors he encounters at medical conferences and the accompanying social gatherings do not wear masks as a matter of choice.

“Smart people are realizing that we’re not going to live with masks forever,” he said, and both he and Bream discussed Dr. Leanna Wen’s recent statement in December that cloth masks were “little more than facial decoration.”

“I would say that if you choose to go, that you’re vaccinated and boosted make sure that you’re wearing a mask even though it’s outdoors there are lots of people packed around you, wearing a three-ply surgical mask. Don’t wear a cloth mask, cloth masks are little more than facial decorations. There’s no place for them in light of Omicron,” she said at the time.

Makary recently blasted his own Johns Hopkins University and the media for downplaying a study that found that COVID-19 lockdowns only reduced virus deaths by 0.2 percent.

The study was conducted by economists at the university, and Makary told Fox News’ Tucker Carlson Wednesday, “Johns Hopkins itself did not even put out a press release about this study, and if you look at the media coverage, it’s one of the biggest stories in the world today, and yet certain media outlets have not even covered it.”
