Arizona Democrats have formally rebuked U.S. Sen. Sinema for voting against a change to the filibuster rule that would have enabled her party to jam through so-called voting rights legislation.
Sinema joined fellow Democrat Joe Manchin (D-WVa.) and all of the Republicans to maintain the 60-vote threshold in the upper chamber needed to move forward on pending legislation.
Obviously making a political calculation, both had previously made it evident that they were unwilling to alter the rules, and in the end, they didn’t cave to pressure exerted by the party establishment from President Joe Biden on down and the party’s allied activist groups.
Generally a liberal on most issues, Sinema supported the attempt to federalize elections that would have advantaged Democrats; she just wasn’t willing to modify the filibuster to get there.
The Democrat duo are essentially all that stands in the way, however, of full-on socialism in America that Democrats would seek to implement while they are still narrowly, but effectively, in control of Congress.
Manchin memorably declined to vote for the Biden’s Build Back Better spending spree, effectively stalling the massive bill, at least in its current form.
Let’s follow Biden’s logic. 1. Any election without the provisions of the new Democratic voter bill is de facto illegitimate. 2. The 2020 election was held without the provisions of the new Democratic voter bill. 3. Draw your own conclusion—the only one that reason permits!

“Pro-democracy” Senate Democrats reportedly used the filibuster, however, more than 300 times in calendar year 2020.
A statement from Raquel Teran, the chair of the Arizona Democrat Party, explained the executive board’s censure action, i.e., an expression of no confidence.
“I want to be clear, the Arizona Democratic Party is a diverse coalition with plenty of room for policy disagreements, however on the matter of the filibuster and the urgency to protect voting rights, we have been crystal clear. In the choice between an archaic legislative norm and protecting Arizonans’ right to vote, we choose the latter, and we always will,” the announcement began.
The statement went on to lament an audit of the 2020 results in Arizona and claimed that Republicans in 19 states are making it “harder” for people to vote.
“As a party, our job is to support our Democratic candidates, and we appreciate Senator Sinema’s leadership in passing the American Rescue Plan and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. However, we are also here to advocate for our constituents and the ramifications of failing to pass federal legislation that protects their right to vote are too large and far-reaching.
“While we take no pleasure in this announcement, the ADP Executive Board has decided to formally censure Senator Sinema as a result of her failure to do whatever it takes to ensure the health of our democracy,” the statement concluded.

In a statement provided to several news outlets, Sinema’s office said that “During three terms in the U.S. House, and now in the Senate, Kyrsten has always promised Arizonans she would be an independent voice for the state — not for either political party. She’s delivered for Arizonans and has always been honest about where she stands.”
Sinema was narrowly elected in 2018 over GOP standard bearer and U.S. Air Force combat veteran Martha McSally, during which — in a familiar scenario — the latter was leading on election night.
Speculation has emerged that U.S. Rep. Ruben Gallego, a Phoenix-area lawmaker, might launch a primary challenge to Sinema.
Emily’s List, the pro-abortion political action committee, is no longer supportive of Sen. Sinema because she didn’t fall in line. Other voices are likely to get louder in this regard.
U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.), for example, has smeared both Sinema and Manchin by claiming that retaining the filibuster means they don’t care about minorities.

According to ABC News, “Groups looking to fund a primary challenger [to Sinema] have raised at least $455,000.”
