Jon Stewart’s remarks that the playing of the national anthem before sporting events was a ‘weird ritual’ is drawing fire with some unloading on the liberal comedian over his disrespect for the patriotic tradition that has been under relentless attack from the America haters on the left.
During the latest edition of his podcast “The Problem With Jon Stewart,” the host chatted with billionaire Mark Cuban, the virtue signaling owner of the “woke” NBA’s Dallas Mavericks franchise who last year halted the anthem prior to the team’s games only to be overruled by the league which has been badly burned from its flirtation with the militant Black Lives Matter movement.
When the conversation turned to the anthem, the former host of “The Daily Show” said, “Does anyone know when that started, playing the national anthem before games? It’s such a weird ritual.”
“I’ve always thought about when Kaepernick took the knee and the whole thing was like, ‘you gotta stand for the anthem!’… but, like, why is that?” he asked. “When the anthem comes, you only have to stand if you’re there, but the transitive principle through the television – if it’s through the television you can do whatever the f**k you want. If you’re at a stadium there is a whole regimen you have to go through.”
The panel on Friday’s edition of Fox News’ “Outnumbered” responded to Stewart’s shocking ignorance about the national anthem’s place in sports where it has served as an inflection point on what brings Americans together regardless of race, creed and class status, an idea viewed with sheer contempt by those who have poisoned the games with their divisive ideology and the big lie that The Star-Spangled Banner is racist in nature.
“The tradition began in 1918 and has marked significant moments in history,” co-host Kayleigh McEnany pointed out.”Who could forget Whitney Houston’s powerful Super Bowl performance when the nation had just entered the Persian Gulf War?”
She added, “The nation’s anthem also unified Americans after the 9/11 terrorist attacks and it’s what we turn to during our toughest moments, but Jon Stewart doesn’t seem to think so.”
Co-host and former NFL cheerleader Emily Compagno talked of the special place that the national anthem had during her time on the field.
“I’ll never forget standing on the field during those games and hearing the national anthem and I’ll especially never forget my very final game, knowing that it was my final game and I had tears streaming down my face and listening to it,” she said, “my hand was over my heart and we were standing and the jets fly overhead… I mean, I’m getting chills now talking about it, it is an incredible experience, that moment of patriotism, that moment of unification before we tear each other into shreds, on the field and in the stands, right.”
Compagno added that she was surprised by Stewart, a former athlete’s comments and that she is “a patriot every day, no matter where I am and I stand for my national anthem.”
“It’s a beautiful practice, honestly there are so few things left in America where we can unify,” added co-host Will Cain, “where we can be together on something, if you ever stand in the stadium when everyone stands for the national anthem and takes off their hat and takes just 90 seconds to think why we’re all in this together. It’s really a beautiful tradition. it’s pretty sophomoric to sit there and poke holes in it because you don’t do it when you’re watching it on television.”
Some took to Twitter to express their opinion on the leftist comic’s latest inane contribution to the national discourse.

Jon Stewart should be moved to China, Iran, Russia, etc. so our national anthem doesn’t ruin his day.

@jonstewart is no patriot. Anyone who doesn’t love our National Anthem is IMO no American. We love our country and we show that through love and respect of our anthem and what it represents in our history. @foxandfriends

If there is one thing about leftists and their haughty aura of faux moral superiority, it is that they seem consistent in their loathing for all things patriotic and decent and are determined to trample on every tradition in their crusade to drain the joy out of every facet of the lives of Americans.
