A Republican lawmaker who was insulted by Dr. Anthony Fauci during a heated congressional hearing this week could have the last word, following his spat with President Joe Biden’s top medical adviser over his financial disclosures, and plans to introduce legislation designed to provide transparency.
Senator Roger Marshall of Kansas pressed Fauci during Tuesday’s Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee hearing on the COVID response, prompting an angry reaction from the embattled national health bureaucrat.
“As the highest-paid employee in the entire federal government,” the senator asked, “yes or no, would you be willing to submit to Congress and the public a financial disclosure that includes your past and current investments?”
“I don’t understand why you’re asking me that question,” Fauci said. “My financial disclosure is public knowledge and has been so for the last 37 years or so, 35 years.”
He was then caught on a hot mic calling Marshall a “moron” and exclaiming “Jesus Christ.”
Following Fauci’s snide remarks, Marshall – who himself is a physician – took to Twitter to troll a man whom he called “the least trusted bureaucrat in America” while calling for the truth.

Marshall then upped the ante by announcing his intent to roll out the Financial Accountability for Uniquely Compensated Individuals – aka the Fauci Act – which will allow for public scrutiny of the financial disclosures of officials like the highly-compensated longtime head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
According to The Hill which first reported on Marshall’s bill, “The Fauci Act would require the Office of Government Ethics (OGE) website to provide the financial records of administration officials like Fauci and a list of those in the government whose financial records are not public.”
Fauci’s cult of defenders was mortified that such a great man could be put on the spot by a mere U.S. senator with one Twitter user, who is also a doctor, invoking a stereotype about Italians and the mafia to suggest that the elfin career bureaucrat should simply make a call and that Sen. Marshall could be sleeping with the fishes.

Dr. Emily Porter’s ill-advised tweet didn’t generate a positive response from Twitter users who were aghast at her callous bigotry.

This week, Fauci also snapped when he was grilled by Senator Rand Paul, suggesting that the Kentucky Republican was responsible for threats against his family.

Nobody has had it better during the hellish two years of the COVID nightmare than Fauci who was rescued from semi-obscurity and transformed into a resistance rock star for his constant undercutting of former President Donald J. Trump.
But the longer that it drags on, his celebrity status may not survive serious scrutiny and his performance during recent hearings could be a sign that the pressure is getting to him.
