Crime in New York City is soaring, in part because of the state’s catch-and-release bail reform policies, and under Manhattan’s new prosecutor, help hardly seems to be on the way.
“This man is looking to create lawlessness and anarchy,” an outraged Jeanine Pirro declared on Fox News’ “The Five.”
Democrat Alvin Bragg, Manhattan’s new district attorney who was elected with the assistance of George Soros’ campaign contributions, has issued a controversial 10-page memo instructing prosecutors not to prosecute many crimes going forward and stressed alternatives to incarceration, all in the name of making the borough “safer.” He also promised to announce new initiatives on gun crimes, sex crimes, and hate crimes in upcoming weeks.
Serious crimes like armed robbery will be downgraded from felonies to misdemeanors unless there was serious harm involved. Certain burglaries and drug dealing offenses will also be downgraded.
Under most circumstances, Bragg’s office will no longer press charges at all in the cases of resisting arrest or obstructing, trespassing, fare jumping, certain traffic offenses including driving without a license, prostitution, and marijuana misdemeanors.
“NYPD unions, New York Republicans and angry residents were left dumbfounded amid growing fears that the crime-ravaged city will experience the same fate as other progressive-run bastions on the West Coast that have been plagued by looting and lawlessness,” the Daily Mail noted.
An NYPD union issued a statement expressing serious concern, which is probably an understatement about what rank-and-file cops are really thinking, about the new policy.

Bragg’s prosecutors will only seek a maximum 20-year sentence even for the most serious offenses, “absent extraordinary circumstances.”
“‘In Bragg’s Manhattan, you can resist arrest, deal drugs, obstruct arrests and even carry a gun and get away with it,’ fumes Detectives’ Endowment Association President Paul DiGiacomo. ‘As long as a criminal doesn’t commit murder, he or she doesn’t have to worry about going to jail,’ one cop laments,” the New York Post reported.
According to new Mayor Eric Adams, however, a former NYPD captain who campaigned with a strong law-and-order message, Bragg is still on “Team Public Safety.”
Reacting to Bragg’s new plan, Pirro also insisted that it is the prosecutor’s job to enforce the law enacted by the legislature.
“It’s not to amend it, it’s not to write it, it’s not to repeal it…this guy doesn’t understand what his job is…this is gonna throw us back to the Wild West,” she said.
Without mentioning the Soros organizations’ involvement in electing far-left prosecutors, an equally animated co-host Greg Gutfeld asserted that soft-on-crime policies are spreading throughout the country like “mold.”
He went on to suggest that for Democrats and the media crime has become a “political variable,” especially as it relates to the one-year anniversary of the riot at the U.S. Capitol.
“For nearly two years, we were told that there is no riots, there was no crime wave, there’s no explosion in murder. It was mocked daily on CNN, but then January 6 happened, and suddenly CNN is pro-cop for one day…And why is this happening? It’s because your victimization, the average American’s victimization, is not the media’s shared experience…nor does it validate their political beliefs. The fact is, a guy in a Viking hat validates their political assessments about the people they despise. Therefore, that is more important than thousands of murder victims strewn across this country.”
Sitting in the show’s liberal chair, Geraldo Rivera, who said he started his legal career in the Manhattan DA’s office, expressed the belief that Bragg’s policy memo, which he described as preposterous and defying common sense, won’t actually be implemented.
“This is not the way to fight crime; this is a way to encourage anarchy,” he commented.
Co-host Jesse Watters characterized Bragg, an ex-federal prosecutor, as “Bill de Blasio reincarnated,” given that the ex-mayor presided over the crime surge and the rapid decay of the city’s quality of life.
