The frustrated parents of a hero who was killed during the disastrous U.S. troop withdrawal from Afghanistan are demanding accountability from America’s top leaders for the Biden-prompted debacle that was “dictated by the Taliban.”
They are also questioning the government’s narrative concerning the cause of death.
In an emotional appearance on “Fox & Friends,” Steve Nikoui and Shana Chappell, the parents of fallen U.S. Marine Kareem Nikoui, say that those in the chain of command, such as Gen. Mark Milley, have evaded responsibility.
Thirteen service members were murdered in a suicide bombing outside the Kabul airport on August 26, 2021, during the botched evacuation.
Co-host Rachel Campos-Duffy began the segment by reporting that the Taliban had released the ISIS terrorist, who was the airport bomber, from prison before the attack.
“I’d like to see General Milley resign,” Nikoui told host Rachel Campos-Duffy in the video clip embedded above. “He should be held responsible for this. He’s the Joint Chiefs of Staff [chairman]…I don’t feel any of them have been held accountable, and the president, he hasn’t taken any accountability on it, either.”
“I’m still waiting for them to be held accountable for it. For some reason, they want to put the blame on everyone but themselves, but it is actually their fault all of this happened,” Shana Chappell agreed. “The 13 that are dead is their fault.”

Describing himself as frustrated, Steve decried the military for failing to protect his son, then age 20, “the way that he needs be protected,” especially in the context of the military’s inexplicable decision to abandon the more secure Bagram airbase. “Instead, they let the Taliban overtake that…”
“The fact that they let [the bomber] out is a testament to the carelessness of this administration, and to top everything off, our son wasn’t killed by a blast of the bomb,” Steve claimed, “so this guy isn’t even the guy that even killed him.”
Kareem’s dad went on to say, in support of that contention, that “we still haven’t got the autopsy report from the government on our son…we have reasons to believe that our son was shot by gunshots. Our son was killed by gunshots, not by a blast.”
“There was reportedly a firefight following the bombing just outside the airport gate, and also a second attack at a nearby hotel, the Baron Hotel, where many sought refuge as they tried to escape,” Fox News recalled.
In meeting with Milley along with other grieving families at the ceremony honoring the fallen heroes at Dover Air Force Base, Nikoui said that the Army general reacted in a hostile manner when Steve questioned the withdrawal strategy that Milley claimed had been “planned for months.”

“Situations like this are very fluid, and it takes the generals on the ground to be able to change direction of any given task immediately,” Steve insisted. “And I think when people are hanging on to the sides of airplanes, I think that was a key to the United States military or to our government officials, that ‘hey, we need to send more troops, this is getting out of hand.’ But they didn’t do that. They let the opposition, they let the Taliban, dictate the evacuation; the people coming through that gate were vetted by the Taliban…”
In the heart-wrenching conversation, Kareem’s mom noted that joining the Marines was her son’s goal from a very early age and began training on his own as a teenager with that in mind. “It’s still kind of unreal that he’s even gone,” Shana admitted. “It’s been really hard.”
