According to polling data, President Joe Biden is deeply unpopular on the right and in the center. “Occupy Biden” is now criticizing him from the left.

The group that is demanding “climate justice now” camped out to form a protest in Biden’s Wilmington, Del., neighborhood during the holiday week, which culminated in a march on New Year’s Day.

Biden was apparently otherwise occupied, however, and neither he, nor any of his staffers, directly interacted with the activists.

The protesters called on Biden to do two things: issue an executive order that declares a climate emergency and require the federal government to oppose any new fossil fuel-related projects.

Secret Service agents outside Biden’s residence told the protesters that they would be unable to deliver a letter to Biden, and the group, instead, would have to go normal channels to present their message. The security team also said it is not their responsibility to ask someone from the president’s entourage to meet with the protesters.

“I actually read our letter of demands to the Secret Service because they refused to take our letter,” Occupy Biden spokesperson Karen Igou told Fox News. “He himself has stated that we are in a code red existential crisis but returned from COP26 to open up more land for drilling. This is unacceptable and [sic] incongruent with life on earth.”

COP26 was the designation for the United Nations Climate Conference that took place in Glasgow, Scotland, in November 2021.

Occupy Biden activists, which reportedly numbered about 200 in total, chanted that “climate change is class war” and insisted that the dreary environmental scenario is reality rather than hyperbole.

According to a purported description of the protest, the group, among other things, identified various left-wing, social justice talking points, which included the following:

It is because we are in a climate emergency that we are taking this action during the most important holiday season of the year, and braving the elements in doing so. Repeated, persistent and strong nonviolent action by organized people is an absolutely essential component of bringing about the changes urgently needed.

While taking action on climate, we will stand in solidarity with the many other justice fights being waged on related issues. We stand in opposition to voter suppression and to all forms of racism/white supremacy…We support the rights of women to control their own bodies and health care decisions and affordable health care for all. We support immigrant rights and the right to organize and unionize on the job….

One protester told the security detail that “we don’t want to be out here. I want to be sitting at home watching Netflix. I’m out here because our planet is dying…” She also claimed that her children are “terrified” about the future.

The protest ended on Saturday, January 1, although the group vowed to continue its climate activism.
