As 2022 rolls in, this is a good time to ponder the results of the first year under Joe Biden. The fallout from his stewardship is horrendous—but totally predictable for anyone who was paying attention.
Just before the 2020 election, I wrote the following: “If Biden wins, your lifestyle will fall to pieces, your economic security will collapse, your right to speak freely will cease to exist, unaccountable government bureaucrats will control your decisions, and you will live in constant fear of violence.” (“What Your Life Will Be Like if Biden Wins,” Clash Daily, October 20, 2020) Sorry to gloat, but I was right.
Let’s consider what Trump gave us. President Trump brought record prosperity to America. He restored America’s economy, lowered unemployment, improved the economic conditions of minorities, took us out of the phony Paris Accord, repudiated the counter-productive Iran agreement, stood up to China’s expansionist foreign policy and one-sided economic practices, enhanced peace in the Middle East, stabilized conditions on the southern border, rebuilt the military, and ended the influence of critical race theory in government agencies. These are all supported by facts.
None of it was good enough. Many Americans said, “We don’t like Trump’s tweets, his alpha-male persona, his haircut, so let’s just ignore all the great things he did and turn the country over to a Democratic Party that hates America, the Bill of Rights, and a strong economy.” And lo and behold, they got what they bargained for. Raising taxes on businesses and individuals are erasing all of the economic gains from the previous four years. We are one step away from a wealth tax on unrealized income. The prices of gas, home heating, and food are soaring. Even if you can afford to buy the things you want, you can’t find them. They are sitting offshore in a fleet of ghost ships.
Citing the 50% increase in gas prices and 20% increase in home heating costs, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy says that “Americans are facing an inflation squeeze that will only grow worse as prices continue to rise into the end of the year. [Biden’s] tax increases and anti-work policies drive ever-more supply chain disruptions and shortages and will bring local businesses to the brink.”
With media complicity, political correctness has clamped down on free speech. The First and Second Amendments are under assault. If you have conservative views, you are afraid to express them. If you have liberal views but consider changing them in response to current events, think twice. Mobs of Antifa and Black Lives Matter thugs are patrolling the streets in your community, ensuring that everyone toes the line. The Democratic Party has embraced violence just as the Nazi Party did in Germany in the 1930s. VP Harris has openly warned us to get used to it. The police will not be there to protect your family from mob violence and you will not be allowed to possess firearms to protect yourself.
Biden has opened the borders to millions of unvetted aliens who are bringing drugs, COVID-19, and rampant crime to our streets—as they suck out a fortune in benefits that we don’t know how to pay for. The completely inept handling of the Afghanistan situation has raised serious questions about America’s posture in the world and the leadership of our once-respected armed forces. And what about our looming adversary, Red China? Biden’s history of corruption all but ensures that we will capitulate to China’s economic onslaught and military aggression.
In short, Biden’s gift to the nation is massive economic and sociological damage. His policies are resulting in the replacement of meritocracy with identity politics, capitalism with Marxism and the Green New Deal, and competence with senility. Biden’s assault on America is paying off in the form of economic regression, mounting indebtedness, growth of the Washington bureaucracy, capitulation to foreign energy, social disintegration via race-baiting, costly entitlement programs, export of American manufacturing, increased taxation, looming inflation, forced redistribution of income, erosion of military effectiveness, and an avalanche of illegal immigration from south of the border.
Thanks to Joe Biden, nothing works the way it’s supposed to.
“In the coming months,” said Tucker Carlson on Fox, “you’re going to call 911 for an emergency, or you’re going to show up at the hospital with an injury, or you’re going to try to catch an airline flight, and you will notice that you can’t because the hospitals, the police department, the fire department, the airlines—none of them work anymore.”
Add the COVID pandemic and you have the recipe for totalitarian powers. The virus is being used as an excuse to accelerate government intrusion into our lives. We have been told when we can leave our homes, when we can go to work, and whom we can associate with. The Attorney General is weaponizing the DOJ and FBI to go after parents who object to critical race theory and mask mandates in our schools. Biden is presiding over a rejection of what is best about this country—the right to complain.
Here is the good news.
“There’s going to be a reckoning,” warns conservative commentator Victor Davis Hanson. “A grassroots populist revolution. We’re going to see it in the next midterm.” Voters don’t trust the government, says Hanson, and they are ready to do something about it. We’ll soon see if he is correct.
