The left-wing city of Philadelphia rang in the New Year with more death and grief, continuing a cycle that’s plagued the city since far-left, Soros-funded prosecutor Larry Krasner was voted into office in 2017.
According to Philly station WTXF, three people were fatally shot and seven wounded within the first few hours after the New Year had begun at 12:00 a.m.
“[P]olice were called to the 100 block of East Luray Street New Year’s morning, around 1:30, on a report of shots fired. Responding officers found a 33-year-old man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the chest. He was rushed to Temple University Hospital where he died,” the station reported.
“Just before 2 a.m., Philadelphia and Temple police responded to multiple calls regarding gunshots on Cecil B. Moore, between Willington and 17th Streets. Officers found two unidentified people suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. They were rushed to Temple were (sic) they both died,” according to WTXF.
The report was published at 6:35 a.m., meaning there was still plenty of time for additional murders to be committed on New Year’s Day. As disturbing as that may sound, this is, sadly, what one might call the “my truth” of Philadelphia.
According to a statement published by Philadelphia City Council President Darrell L. Clarke fairly early on the afternoon of New Year’s Eve, 559 people had by then been killed and 2,300 shot in Philadelphia in 2021 alone.
“More than 60 homicide victims were children or teens. No neighborhood is immune. More lives were lost to gun violence this year than any year in Philadelphia history,” he wrote in a statement on New Year’s Eve.
“Every homicide, every shooting, leaves deep circles of trauma that grievously harm mothers, fathers, family, friends and neighbors,” Clarke added.

FYI, according to an updated report from NBC affiliate WCAU, the death count for 2021 eventually reached 562.
Clarke, a Democrat, continued his statement by predictably blaming the surge in homicides on COVID, guns and so-called “inequity.”
“Our city is not alone as it struggles with gun violence. Homicides are up in other cities. Experts believe the COVID-19 pandemic, which has caused homelessness, business closures, job losses and other inequities, has contributed to the other epidemic of gun violence that plagues our cities. But our jobs as Councilmembers and elected officials are to come up with solutions to make communities safer, not offer excuses,” he wrote.
“Philadelphia is awash in a flood of guns. Handgun sales doubled last year – nearly 26,000 handguns were bought citywide. Meanwhile, Philadelphia police have confiscated 5,540 crime guns in 2021 – 11 percent more than last year. The city is fighting in state court for the right to enforce our own lost or stolen handgun reporting law – a reform led by City Council. The city is also suing the state legislature for failing to enact stronger gun laws – another reform led by Council,” the council president added.
Little mention was made of Krasner, a far-left Democrat who’s drastically “reformed” Philadelphia’s criminal justice system.
Under the Democrat prosecutor, bail isn’t imposed in most cases, most misdemeanors have been decriminalized and cases are frequently dropped for no valid reason.
In pursuing such lax-on-crime policies, he’s turned Philadelphia into a gangster’s paradise just like Chicago, New York City and so many other Democrat-controlled metropolitan areas:

To make matters worse, Krasner has denied the seriousness of the crime epidemic that his policies have engendered. In doing so, he’s reportedly enraged local residents.
“On the unseasonably warm night of Dec. 10, a groom stepped outside of his wedding reception for a breath of fresh air. Two men saw him. One drew a handgun, and they demanded the groom’s Rolex watch. The robbery occurred downtown a short stroll away from the Liberty Bell,” according to a recent op-ed from The Wall Street Journal’s editorial board.
“Welcome to the holiday season in Larry Krasner’s Philadelphia. Days before the groom’s ambush, the progressive district attorney claimed that ‘we don’t have a crisis of lawlessness, we don’t have a crisis of crime, we don’t have a crisis of violence.’ The remarks infuriated Philadelphia residents, who are the victims of the crime he said doesn’t exist,” the op-ed notes.
He’s also enraged one of the city’s former mayors. In an op-ed published in The Philadelphia Inquirer last month, former Philly Mayor Michael Nutter slammed Krasner for the “ignorance and white privilege to say that” there’s no crime epidemic in the city.
While all this anger and frustration is understandable, there’s one pivotal problem. Though so many Philly residents appear to be exasperated with Krasner, they keep voting him back into office:
