Discussions surrounding a proposed change to Jordan’s constitution ended up in a brawl more fit for a bar than a parliament this week.
A few lawmakers suggested adding a female pronoun to the Middle East country’s constitution in the section that regards equal rights, however critics argued that such a change would be “useless.” BBC reports that “opposition leader Vahe Hakobian was heckled for calling Prime Minister Nikol Pashinian a ‘lying populist’.”
It was around this time that shouting and impassioned finger-pointing gave way to slapping, hitting, and some members attempting to restrain others as they fought. All as the debate was being live-streamed to televisions around the country.

The session was adjourned following the fist-fight, and was set to return to business Wednesday.
Naturally the Twitterverse caught wind of the altercation and had some questions, comments and concerns about what is going on in Jordan:
Grown men maturely deciding on women’s issues. Again.

They really should release some weed vapour into this room. They would then probably settle down and watch bugs bunny cartoons instead of fighting!
Can you imagine how difficult it is for a woman to fit in there?

The first rule of Jordan’s parliament is you don’t talk about Jordan’s parliament.

i will just simply explain to you what happen, those amendments that they are debating on are about adding the word “ Jordanian female” to the constitution and that’s absolutely pointless and have no benefit to add since the word Jordanian include both male and female citizne
