Former hedge fund manager and CNBC host of “Mad Money” Jim Cramer was absolutely dragged on Twitter after posting two context-free photos of a “field trip” he took to a dollar store.
The first photo was of the exterior of a Dollar General store, with the simple caption “field trip.” He didn’t explain why he was there, what he was looking for, or anything.

A minute later, he posted a photo of empty shelves within the store, and the caption “suboptimal.”

With so much news surrounding the supply chain crisis and consumers not being able to find the products they need, this may not seem like such a rare occurrence. However, the particular shelves that Cramer chose to target happened to be the cleaned-out seasonally stocked shelves. These sections are full of items that rotate over the year, with Valentine’s Day, Easter, Halloween and Christmas items gracing the shelves at seasonally-appropriate times.
What Cramer failed to take into account, perhaps, was that he was shopping mere days after Christmas, which means that the seasonal items for that time were being removed, and the shelves were being decorated and filled for the next holiday/celebration.
It didn’t take Twitter users long to clue Cramer in on what he was missing, though nobody could pinpoint exactly what he was trying to get at with those photos:
What’s suboptimal is you trying to pass off regular restocking for Valentine’s Day as some sort of problem. pic.twitter.com/RQBD3zCFXY

That is literally a holiday aisle cleared out to make room for the next holiday. Nobody is seeing empty shelves like this, you damn lying fear-mongering fool.

Hi @jimcramer I am a Retail Store Manager, have been for 24 years. The weeks after Christmas is a transition into Valentine’s Day. You condense and mark down Christmas and the. Fill with Valentine’s Day stuff. This tweet is just irresponsible, and you should delete it. https://t.co/VtFoQSOgpH
