The doomsday cult that some critics insist represents the corporate media, a contingent which is currently fixated on the COVID-19 Omicron variant narrative, is putting out the word that the flu is staging a comeback after it supposedly went on hiatus for a year.

Earlier this year, some experts were even warning of a so-called twindemic, that is, constituting the simultaneous spread of both COVID and the flu.

Individuals can obviously draw their own conclusions about the existing health scenario at year-end 2021. COVID-related precautions and mitigation measures are what purportedly caused the flu to decide to take the year off, which rendered it practically nonexistent.

Skeptics might conclude, however, that the premise is perhaps evocative of the country-and-western song from back in the day with the title how can I miss you when you won’t go away.

“The U.S. flu season has arrived on schedule after taking a year off…Last year’s flu season was the lowest on record, likely because COVID-19 measures — school closures, distancing, masks and canceled travel – prevented the spread of influenza, or because the coronavirus somehow pushed aside other viruses,” ABC7 Eyewitness News Los Angeles reported, for example, about what it described as the “unusually light” 2020 flu season.

The news outlet also noted that “flu hospitalizations [are] rising.”

According to Lynnette Brammer, an official with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention who leads the agency’s Domestic Influenza Surveillance team, this winter “is setting itself up to be a more normal flu season.” So far, two children have tragically died as a result of influenza as opposed to only one child death last year, per the CDC.

In 2019, there reportedly were 199 fatalities in the younger cohort from the flu (144 in 2018), although apparently alternative data may exist.

These fatalities are “unfortunately what we would expect when flu activity picks up. It’s a sad reminder of how severe flu can be,” Brammer added.

The principal remedy appears to be for everyone to get a flu shot, according to public health authorities. Pursuant to CDC guidelines, “Everyone 6 months and older should get a flu vaccine every season with rare exceptions.”

The CDC also “recommends everyone ages 5 years and older get a COVID-19 vaccine to help protect against COVID-19.”

Many Twitter users metaphorically tested the flu comeback hypothesis and found it wanting. Here is a representative sample:
