Wasserman Schultz says DeSantis is to blame for lack of Covid tests, not Biden. Huh?

The arrival of the Omicron variant was an early Christmas gift for Democrats who wasted little time to once again weaponize an ongoing national health crisis for political purposes as well as a convenient smokescreen for the failures of President Joe Biden.

Most importantly to Dems is that the latest wave of mass hysteria provides an opportunity to go on the offensive against Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, a man whose handling of COVID has set the gold standard for the nation by prioritizing protecting the most vulnerable while preserving the state economy and protecting civil liberties.

One of those who went on the offensive against DeSantis was Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz who ran the DNC as a de facto arm of the Hillary Clinton campaign before being forced out over alleged bias against Bernie Sanders that may have cost him the 2016 nomination.

On Friday, DWS appeared on CNN where she blamed DeSantis for a shortage of tests as a terrified populace desperately seeks to determine whether they have been infected, a statement that completely ignored Biden’s reported rejection of recommendations for making over 700 million test kits available in anticipation of a holiday surge.

“Ultimately, who do you think should be held accountable for the apparent shortage of tests in this country?” asked CNN host Boris Sanchez, opening the door for the attack on DeSantis.

“Well, I’ll tell you, in my state, the person that should be held accountable is Ron DeSantis, our governor because there’s no one else in the entire United States that I think that has done more to make it harder to keep people healthy than Ron DeSantis,” Wasserman Schultz responded.

“He has led the effort to pass laws in our state capitol to prevent people from being required to wear masks, to prevent businesses from requiring vaccines for employees, he’s withheld funds from school districts because they wanted to make that they could require students to wear masks so that they could keep children safe who at the time couldn’t get vaccinated themselves,” Wasserman Schultz said, bemoaning the governor’s resistance to the forced masking and vaccine mandates sought by the White House.

The nine-term Democrat added, “So, when it comes to the effort to make sure that we can really prevent the spread, we have to make sure that we are maximizing our local government’s ability to be able to establish public health practices and so that’s where I think the effort begins and, of course, we need to make sure that we ramp up testing as quickly as possible.”

Also pouncing on Omicron as a line of attack against DeSantis was the Miami Herald which published a Christmas Eve op-ed accusing the Sunshine State governor of acting “selfishly” and “peddling lies” on Fox News.

“DeSantis is still busy peddling treatment instead of prevention. He’s still spreading lies on Fox News and any conservative right-wing program that will listen to him about Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top authority on infectious diseases,” wrote Fabiola Santiago in a rant as sour as spoiled eggnog.

“The governor calls giving a damn about the science of contamination “Faucism,” a political talking point to counteract what the rest of us see him doing on voting rights and education, governing with such authoritarianism that he comes perilously close to Fascism with every move. So many of us wish he would put politics aside, at least for the coronavirus,” she added, bemoaning DeSantis’ frequent criticism of Dr. Fauci, a man who the media has repeatedly immunized from criticism.

Wasserman Schultz’s assertion that DeSantis should be scapegoated for Omicron comes despite a bombshell New York Times report that was published last week following Biden’s vow to provide half a billion free at-home test kits to Americans while omitting the inconvenient facts that no contract had been signed and that the website from which the tests could be ordered wouldn’t even be online until January.

The Times cited a Johns Hopkins expert who threw shade at Biden’s big announcement.

“That’s not a plan — it’s a hope,” epidemiologist Jennifer Nuzzo of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, said, according to the Times. “If those tests came in January and February, that could have an impact, but if they are spread out over 10 to 12 months, I’m not sure what kind of impact it is going to have.”

Like her fellow Democrats, Wasserman Schultz has previously sought to damage DeSantis politically by using COVID. In August, she said that the only place on the planet that had a worse rate of cases was Guadalupe, a claim that drew scant attention from the “fact-checkers” who have been tasked with policing speech that runs counter to the establishment narrative.

With DeSantis up for reelection in 2022 and the dismal quality of his opponents making a second term in the governor’s mansion looking like a veritable slam dunk, look for Democrats and their media allies to fully exploit Omicron as well as coming variants to swing public opinion in their favor by playing fast and loose with the facts.
