Tom Homan, former Acting Director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), has once again lambasted President Joe Biden over his handling, or lack thereof, of the border situation.
As the ongoing border crisis worsens, a 21-year-old man was caught trying to illegally enter the country at Yuma, Arizona with some disturbing details. The man, whose name has not been released, allegedly has ties to terrorist networks in Yemen and was wearing a jacket with a Central Oneida County Volunteer Ambulance Corps patch. Since the organization is in Albany, New York, this has led to some speculation that the man may have been involved with some kind of plot involving that part of the country.
This has led to more commentary by Homan, a frequent critic of Biden and his border policies, to take to Fox News on Monday to call the president out.
“I have been saying all year long when you open up the border to illegal immigration, which takes half of the border patrol off the line, you open up to criminals, you open up to human trafficking of women and children and open it up to terrorism,” he said on “Fox News Primetime.”
As host Brian Kilmeade pointed out, ICE was “lucky” to have caught this suspected terrorist, but may not be so in the future. Homan addressed the terrorism and national security concerns related to inadequate border screening.
“Border patrol already arrested over fifteen people on the terrorist extreme data baits. Fifteen. This is just the latest. We know they released 600,000 into the country this past year. We know there is a hundred thousand got-aways. People didn’t get apprehended and escaped. We know that from camera traffic, drone traffic, sensor traffic. Terrorists don’t want to get arrested. How many of that 400,000 didn’t get arrested and are terrorists?” he asked.
When Kilmeade brought up the Fentanyl crisis, accusing China of manufacturing the drug and handing it over to Latin American drug cartels for smuggling to the US, Homan stated that he knew “for a fact” that “forty to fifty percent of the border patrol is not on the line.”
Homan also stated that “last week, there wasn’t anybody on the border for days at a time,” which is being taken full advantage of by drug cartels.
“It is not a coincidence in same year historic illegal immigration numbers, [and] at the same time historic Fentanyl overdose deaths,” Homan said.
Homan is no stranger to criticizing Biden or open border policies in general. Previously, Homan has stated that the “Omicron” variant of Covid-19 is sufficient cause to close the border entirely, as another huge migrant caravan approaches. Homan has also added his voice to GOP calls for the removal of Department of Homeland Security Director Alejandro Mayorkas.
Regardless of terrorism or Fentanyl, action on the border situation continues to seem unlikely at best.
