A prestigious British university is facing an open revolt from professors who are “furious” over a proposal to base recruiting on how “woke” prospective academic appointees are rather than their actual qualifications, a sign that the critical race theory virus has made the jump across the pond.
According to a report by the UK Telegraph, Oxford University’s race equality task force is recommending that it is “important to embed EDI” – which stands for equality, diversity and inclusion – into “all recruitment,” citing documents reviewed by the paper.
The proposal states that “good citizenship and/or commitment to EDI work” should be an “essential criteria” for applicants in all reward and recognition processes,” the Telegraph reported.
Such a radical change isn’t sitting well with Oxford dons who are concerned that such a “woke score” would adversely affect the quality of education at a college that proudly promotes itself as “a world-leading centre of learning, teaching and research and the oldest university in the English-speaking world” on its website.
A senior don is quoted by the paper as asking, “If we are supposed to pay attention to their EDI – their woke score – does this mean it doesn’t matter if they are useless at teaching and research? Or do you now have to get a minimum woke score to get a job?”
He added, “So you are being interviewed for a job in alchemy, yet you have to go out your way to show you have tried to virtue signal – to an old codger like me it just seems crazy. Do you mark someone down because they haven’t jumped on the woke bandwagon?”
“The document also says that a ‘centrally funded pool of trained EDI observers’ should be set up to ‘provide support’ to recruitment panels on request,” the Telegraph reported
Twitter users weighed in on the task force’s transformational ideas.
I never thought I'd see the day that Oxford University would completely collapse into being Woke-Theology College, but it seems to be here: https://t.co/ZwtwnbOCme

Ideological discrimination means many of the most qualified expert candidates will now end up working at other universities, meaning Oxford will inevitably sink from its current elite status and be overtaken by those who simply hire the best people.

Ideological thought control. Is the CCP running this place?!

If they stop recruiting based on merit, then they will stop being the most elite university in the country.
If you want to be the most elite institution, that has to be your hiring criteria.
Selection for ideology or identity over expertise will end their elite status.

They could always just hire anyone with an IQ under 50 and get the exact same result.

According to the paper, “The race equality task force says their recommendations are aimed at addressing ‘racial inequalities among staff’ as well as barriers for black and minority ethnic students.”
“Students and staff have been invited to submit their responses to the consultation by Wednesday. The task force will then draw up a university-wide strategy on equality and diversity which they will need to submit to Council – Oxford’s governing body – for approval before it can become official university policy,” the Telegraph reported.
Unfortunately for the rest of the western world, “woke” ideology is rapidly becoming one of America’s top exports.
