Cornell panics over Covid spike, locks down campus and moves final exams online

Ithaca, New York’s Cornell University is locking down their campus after it was confirmed that roughly 900 students tested positive for COVID, with a number of those results showing indicators of the Omicron variant.

Despite the fact that the semester is already wrapping up and classes were over, the college went into full-blown panic mode after seeing a massive spike of COVID in the student body that began following the Thanksgiving break.

Finals were moved online as the campus moved to “Alert Level Red.”

Despite much of the fearmongering over COVID in general and the Omicron variant specifically, it is telling that Cornell University noted in a statement they “have not seen severe illness in any of our infected students” and admitted that closing down their campus was more for the “broader community.”

Continuing, they explained the reason for “imposing such serious steps” was to keep COVID from spreading, but their math didn’t add up for many Twitter users:
