The world is watching President Joe Biden as the administration faces yet another high-stakes foreign policy crisis over the heightened tensions between Russia and Ukraine that many believe will result in Vladimir Putin ordering an invasion of the neighboring country.

With America’s image having already been badly damaged after the humiliating surrender of Afghanistan to the Taliban, a failure to prevent a potential Russian takeover of Ukraine would be seen as another sign of weakness that will further embolden China, Iran and the nation’s other adversaries, especially if Biden is outmaneuvered by the wily Putin.

On Tuesday, the leaders of the two nuclear powerhouses held a virtual meeting where it was expected that Biden would lay down the law but few were impressed, including Fox News’ Dana Perino who suggested that the embattled president may be out of his league.

During a discussion of the latest foreign policy crisis on “The Five,” the host scoffed at the notion that the White House could successfully use the Nord Stream 2 pipeline that will transport gas between Russia and Germany as leverage to back Putin down, an idea that was expressed by Biden’s national security adviser Jake Sullivan.

Co-host Katie Pavlich set the table for Perino, “Dana, sanctions have failed on Russia before, they now have the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, Jake Sullivan  the White House security adviser today, national security adviser, tried to argue that the pipeline’s actually leverage for the west, and not for Russia.”

Perino didn’t hold back, “Yeah, I found that curious, a pipeline is not a toy you can take away from a child because they were being naughty,” she said. “That pipeline has been being built for years and one of the things I was gonna say is that Putin and Lavrov, the foreign minister, basically they have been through many administrations, they’re super patient.”

“They’ve been through Clinton and Bush and Obama and Trump and they’re looking at Biden and they’re like… they’re very patient.” She added. “What, what Putin…what he really wants is Ukraine back, but he might settle for Ukraine not getting into NATO right now, and after that, I bet he gets that. I bet he gets that.”

“And then so, then you have to ask, well, what else is left, right, if he is starting to get that?” She asked. “You wait until just a few more years and then Nord Stream 2 is underway, the gas is flowing into Germany, you think that Germany is going to vote for Ukraine to be in NATO? No, I don’t believe that.”

Perino continued, “So there are a lot of geopolitical concerns, I believe here, because if a sovereign country can have two other countries make decisions for it, like meaning that the United States and Russia basically dealing with Ukraine and Ukraine can’t do that, what does that mean for all sorts of other countries in the world?”

“And we focus a lot on China and Taiwan, but there are others across the world where we’re not going to send troops, and really, truly to me, the only real deterrents, if you are not going to do the SWIFT transaction fees for Russia, would be a show of force, and I don’t think that Biden is going to do that.”

The tough-talking Biden has a very serious dilemma on his hands and if he again steps on a rake on the world stage, it could set off a chain reaction as America’s enemies perceive that there will be no consequences for their actions.
