Psaki shuts down Doocy blaming Biden for Covid deaths: Don't you know, it's all Trump's fault?

White House press secretary Jen Psaki suddenly doesn’t have a lot to say about President Joe Biden’s previous comments claiming former President Donald Trump was “responsible” for so many COVID-related deaths that it effectively made him unqualified to be a leader.

This, of course, comes as the rising death toll from coronavirus nears 780,000. Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy pressed Psaki on the remarks and asked whether they are “still the standard” by which we should judge a leader.

“A lot of talk about the first Trump/Biden debate today, but at the second one in 2020 when roughly 220,000 Americans had died from COVID, Joe Biden said about Trump: ‘Anyone who is responsible for that many deaths should not remain as president of the United States of America.’ Is that still the standard now that more Americans have died under President Biden than President Trump?”

Naturally, Psaki had all kinds of responses, but no answers.

“I think the fundamental question here is ‘what are you doing to save lives and protect people?’ And the former president was suggesting people inject bleach, he apparently reportedly didn’t even share with people he was going to interact with that he had tested positive for COVID himself,” Psaki whined. “He continued to provide a forum for misinformation which probably led to people not taking steps to protect themselves, to wear a mask, to eventually get vaccinated. This president has made the vaccine widely available, he’s relied on the advice of his health and medical experts, and he’s trying to be a part of solving this crisis, getting the pandemic under control, and I think there’s a pretty stark difference between their approaches.”

That’s a lot of words for “no.”

For what it’s worth, even Politifact rated the “bleach” claim mostly false. In July 2020, they wrote:

Biden said Trump said drinking bleach could help fight the coronavirus. Trump did not specifically recommend ingesting disinfectants, but he did express interest in exploring whether disinfectants could be applied to the site of a coronavirus infection inside the body, such as the lungs. We rate Biden’s claim Mostly False.
