Flipping the script perhaps, Alec Baldwin claims that he did not discharge the gun on a New Mexico movie set that resulted in the tragic death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and the wounding of director Joel Souza even though it was in his hand.
During a tearful interview with George Stephanopoulos of ABC News, the Trump-loathing liberal asserted that “The trigger wasn’t pulled. I didn’t pull the trigger…I would never point a gun at anyone and pull the trigger at them, never.”
Baldwin responded in this manner after Stephanopoulos noted that the script for the movie “Rust” did require the trigger to be pulled.
Previously describing the grievous outcome on October 21 at the Bonanza Creek Ranch in Santa Fe as a “one in a trillion incident,” Baldwin, 63, added that he has no idea how a real round got into a prop gun and that it all seems unreal.
“Someone put a live bullet in a gun, a bullet that wasn’t even supposed to be on the property,” he said in a teaser trailer released by the network.
“Authorities have previously said Baldwin was holding the prop gun while rehearsing a scene at the Bonanza Creek Ranch near Santa Fe when it accidentally discharged,” the New York Post recalled.
Last month, however, “Rust” script supervisor Mamie Mitchell alleged in a lawsuit that “Alec Baldwin intentionally, without just cause or excuse, cocked and fired and loaded gun even though the upcoming scene to be filmed did not call for the cocking and firing of a firearm.”
In the interview with the ex-Bill Clinton operative that ABC News will air in its full on Thursday evening, the weepy actor acknowledged that this is the worst thing that ever happened to him “because I think back, and I think of what could I have done?”

In the sit-down, the actor described Hutchins as “someone who was loved by everyone who worked with [her] and liked by everyone who worked with [her], and admired.”
A criminal investigation is underway in the incident by New Mexico authorities, including by the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office. No one has been criminally charged as yet.
“The Santa Fe Sheriff’s Department, which interviewed Baldwin immediately after the incident but has not disclosed what he told them, said on Wednesday it had no comment on his remarks,” Reuters reported.
“Santa Fe authorities are focusing on how a live bullet, rather than a blank, ended up in the gun and how other live rounds got onto the set. Court documents on Wednesday showed that authorities had recovered some suspected live ammunition from a local supplier of movie props and weapons.”
Santa Fe District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altweis has separately acknowledged to NBC News that one live round possibly got mixed in with either dummies or blanks. “That’s one of the scenarios that we are exploring, and it is likely that that’s what happened.”

One theory is that a live round from another movie production founds its way to the “Rust” set.
As one of the producers of the movie in addition to being the star, Baldwin is one of those named in at least two civil lawsuits alleging unsafe working conditions. Several crew members reportedly quit the production prior to this tragic incident over workplace safety issues.
In a Vermont roadside encounter with paparazzi in October, Baldwin said cops told him not to comment on an ongoing investigation. He then proceeded to conduct an impromptu Q&A, including suggesting that no live ammo should ever be used during movie filming going forward.
