Former acting Director of National Intelligence Richard Grenell ripped into CNN after a network correspondent asked Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) about the supposedly “racist roots” of the filibuster.
In recent months, President Joe Biden, who spent decades serving in the U.S. Senate, has said he now agrees with his former running mate and president, Barack Obama, that the filibuster is a “relic of the Jim Crow era,” though Obama made a passionate defense of the procedural rule on the floor of the chamber in 2005.
During his speech, Obama said ditching the filibuster would allow the majority party to “change the rules in the middle of the game so that they can make all the decisions while the other party is told to sit down and keep quiet.”
“If the majority chooses to end the filibuster, if they choose to change the rules and put an end to democratic debate, then the fighting and the bitterness and the gridlock will only get worse,” Obama predicted.
But that was then; today, as Democrats hold a bare majority in the upper chamber and a very slim majority in the House — and with the 2022 midterms already looking like a Republican blow-out given Biden’s tanking approval ratings — party leaders recognize their days in control of Congress are likely numbered. So they have increasingly attacked the Senate filibuster, a rule which requires 60 votes to move most legislation, as out-of-date and ‘unfair,’ even though Democrats used the procedure at least 327 times in 2020 alone.
And the left-wing media appears to be doing its part to help the Democratic Party’s cause.
“I asked GOP Leader Mitch #McConnell, who describes characterization of the #filibuster as rooted in racism as ‘nonsense,’ if he was worried about the public perception to opposing a measure many believe will block efforts to make it harder for black people to vote,” CNN national politics reporter Eva McKend noted in a March tweet containing a video of her asking the question.

“Actually, historians do not agree. [The filibuster] has no racial history at all. None,” McConnell fired back at the time. “So there’s no dispute among historians about that. I make no apologies for opposing this bill.
“You’ve heard Sen. [Roy] Blount [R-Mo.] outline the various flaws involved in it,” McConnell continued. “This is about a power grab. If [the filibuster] were related to civil rights, why were the Democrats using the tool last year? And the year before that? And the last six years?”
The tweet was apparently pinned to McKend’s Twitter feed and it caught the attention of Grenell this week.
“This is a pinned tweet from a CNN ‘reporter’ – which means she’s proud of this moment….a moment which shows her partisan activism disguised as reporting. This isn’t remotely journalism,” Grenell, who served as acting head of U.S. intelligence under then-President Donald Trump, responded early Saturday.

“Why is @evamckend’s entire twitter feed pro-Democrat and anti-Republican? She is supposed to be a reporter at CNN,” Grenell added in a follow-up.

Because @CNN is not a news organization.

CNN doesn’t hire nor does it employ professional journalists.

It’s the bs that passes for journalism today, and it’s what gets her promoted. #journalismisextinct

Does anyone rely on CNN for news? Let alone impartiality?
CNN have their feet cemented solidly in one ideology.
