U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida said Wednesday that he sees congressional potential in Kyle Rittenhouse, the embattled young man who’s currently on trial for the alleged murder of two Black Lives Matter/Antifa extremists.
Gaetz was on Newsmax speaking with host Grant Stinchfield, who’s been fervent in his coverage and criticism of the left’s “big lies” about the young man, when he made the remark.
“Thank you for your advocacy for Kyle Rittenhouse. He is not guilty. He deserves a not guilty verdict, and I sure hope he gets it,” he said to the Newsmax host.
“Because you know what? Kyle Rittenhouse would probably make a pretty good congressional intern. We may reach out to him and see if he’d be interested in helping the country in additional ways,” the congressman added.
Stinchfield, who too is a big fan of Rittenhouse, promptly responded, “So maybe we’ll have to fight for him. I want him here at Newsmax. Maybe he can be a Stinchfield intern too.”
“You guys pay way better at Newsmax, but there’s nothing like the Hill,” the congressman quipped in response.
Gaetz’ pro-Rittenhouse advocacy predictably triggered attacks and smears from irate leftists:

Well Rittenhouse is certainly within Matty’s age range for a date. Another “adopted” son in the works?

Rottenhouse is 18 now – too old for Mattloaf Gaetz.

Reach ‘out’? I think he meant Reach ‘around’.

I’m sure he’d love to “hire” him or “reach out” to him but I don’t think he realizes that Kyle is now an adult. Maybe a little too old for him now. Do you think Kyle has Venmo?

Or, better yet, maybe they could be cellmates

Last spring, the media reported that Gaetz was under investigation by the FBI for allegedly having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old girl in 2019 and possibly violating sex trafficking laws.
The congressman, for his part, denied the allegations and claimed he and his father were “victims of an organized criminal extortion involving a former DOJ official seeking $25 million.”
Months later, he himself has yet to be charged, but someone was indicted for trying to extort him, as reported below by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Glenn Greenwald:
It’s been more than 5 months since NYT reported Matt Gaetz was “under investigation” for sex with an underage girl. Maybe one day he’ll be charged, but leaking the existence of investigations without charges is a crime for a reason: destroys reputations with no chance of defense.

This was a favorite tactic of corrupt Brazilian prosecutors: they’d leak investigations and accusations to corporate media outlets, which would trumpet them, but never charge the person, thus destroying their enemies’ reputations with no need to ever prove the case in court.

In the meantime, Gaetz’s claim that his family was being extorted was bolstered this week when DOJ indicted someone for trying to extort his family for $25m, as he claimed.
If Gaetz is guilty, he should be charged & tried, not convicted in the media.https://t.co/gFtjm9DNSR

For the time being, the allegations against the congressman appear to be as thin and unconvincing as the allegations against Rittenhouse. Leftists are, nevertheless, 100 percent convinced that Gaetz is some sort of pedophile and Rittenhouse is a white supremacist murderer.
The irony is that one of the extremists whom Rittenhouse fatally shot was a convicted child molester. Yet, thanks to left-wing logic and false media narratives, he is somehow viewed as a “hero.”
To be fair, even intellectual giants like classically liberal commentator Bari Weiss were bamboozled by the media’s narratives.
In a Substack post published this week, Weiss admitted that back in 2020, she fell hook, line and sinker for the media’s false narratives that Rittenhouse “was a racist vigilante” who “drove across state lines … with an illegally acquired semi-automatic … because he knew there were Black Lives Matter protests and he wanted to start a fight.”
But unlike most on the left, she now acknowledges the truth.
“There was zero evidence that Rittenhouse was connected to white supremacist groups at the time of the shooting. He was a Trump supporter, yes, though he wasn’t old enough to vote. He was an admirer of police and firefighters, also true. He was a lifeguard. He’d been part of a ‘police explorer’ program, and was also a firefighter/EMT cadet with the fire department in Antioch, Illinois, where he lived with his mom and two sisters,” the post reads.
“In addition to having a job in Kenosha, Rittenhouse testified that much of his family lived there: his father, his grandma, his aunt and uncle, and his cousins. He also testified that on the morning of the shootings, he went downtown with his sister and friends to see the damage done by rioting the night before, and spent about two hours cleaning graffiti off of the local high school,” it continues.
It sounds like Rittenhouse was one of the good guys, though Weiss likely wouldn’t use that specific term to describe him. Combat veteran and congressional candidate Teddy Daniels, on the other hand, might:
“This young man did everything by the book… This young man, in my opinion, did everything right according to even law enforcement standards,” Daniels said during an appearance on Newsmax last week.
Gaetz and Stinchfield would no doubt concur.
