President Joe Biden’s attempt to bolster electric vehicle production at the “Factory Zero” plant in Detroit, Michigan resulted in an awkward – and some say telling – moment in which he mumbled that he’s “gotta take orders” after being told where to stand.
The strange sequence was caught on film, as the General Motors guide was explaining to Biden who the people in front of him were, and how the event was going to go. He interrupted her to ask where he was supposed to stand.
“I stand on the blue marker, huh?” Biden asked.
“Yeah, the blue,” the GM guide confirmed.
“Gotta take orders,” Biden mumbled, before passing right over the blue marker.
“You’re here,” the guide said, pointing to the floor as the president passed it. “Okay… okay…” Awkward chuckling ensued as everyone else moved forward to accommodate the president.
“Gotta take orders”.

This flub could have been easily overlooked, but it wasn’t the first time that Biden has made flippant comments implying that he is not making his own decisions, as noted by a Twitter user:
Leader of the free world, constantly making jokes about how he’s not allowed to make his own decisions. Always a good look.

The exchange prompted social media users to ask some questions, and make some observations of their own:
I truly want to know who is running the country for him. Sincerely!

Biden has previously raised eyebrows with similar comments. In July 2020, Biden closed out a presser with some questions, but made sure to retrieve his “list” that seemingly contained the names of approved reporters to call on.

In early November 2021 while at the G20 summit in Rome, the president began taking questions seemingly from a list of approved reporters.
“And now I’m happy to take some questions and I’m told to start with AP, Zeke Miller,” Biden noted, reading from a piece of paper.

In September, Politico reported that White House staffers will allegedly turn off the televisions when Biden speaks, for fear of his gaffes. They are also concerned that he will go rogue and decide to answer questions for himself, which would explain the pre-approved lists from which the president of the free world appears to be working.
