A senior advisor over at Strike PAC and Lincoln Project has met with a barrage of criticism over a tweet mocking the car of a Trump supporter.
The individual being dragged on Twitter is one Rachel Bitecofer, a co-founder of left-wing Strike PAC, and political analyst and senior advisor for the Lincoln Project, which was originally founded by Republicans disillusioned with former President Donald Trump.
The original context was a picture showing a simple one-story home in Los Angeles featuring an American flag, a Trump flag, and an “Impeach Biden” flag. There is also a beige-colored car outside that is clearly not a very recent model. The original photo is captioned with “Spotted in Los Angeles, the fun neighbor.”

The storm broke when Bitecofer responded with a dismissive, “Can’t even afford a car from this century!”

The tweet provoked a storm of harsh replies. Responses were quick and sharp, noting the condescending “classist” tone of Bitecofer and touching into the warring stereotypes of snotty, out-of-touch, holier-than-thou liberal elitists versus uneducated, poor, backward Republican hicks.

One Twitter user pointed out what appeared to be a direct contradiction between Bitecofer’s earlier statements that seemed to indicate a concern for the poor as justification for supporting Biden, versus mocking somebody for the year of their car’s manufacture:

Then, the real storm began when Christina Pushaw, press secretary for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis drew more widespread attention to the thread as she asked bluntly, “What is the point of this Tweet, Rachel?” to a Bitecofer tweet which has since been deleted.
Substack journalist Glenn Greenwald was drawn to the drama and replied, “That poor people are gross and stupid and that’s why they’re Trump supporters.”

The out-of-touch commentary by Bitecofer seems to cast some doubt as to her qualifications to advise anyone, given that the purpose of Strike PAC is, according to their website, to change “how Democrats campaign from top to bottom, enabling them to effectively compete against the Republican Party.”
It remains to be seen if any Republicans were convinced to vote for Democrats with such empathetic sentiments connected to the modest means and daily financial struggles of many Americans.
