Swalwell’s effort to pile on Ted Cruz with pals Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger doesn’t go too well

Liberals like Eric Swalwell seem to be unaware of the concept of leaving well enough alone.

As if everyone is still in high school, the California Democrat congressman apparently thought it would be a good idea to intervene in the barb-trading involving Sen. Ted Cruz and Reps. Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger, all Republicans.

The San Francisco-area Democrat’s ill-advised attempt at trolling when the political opposition is debating among themselves did not go so well, however.

When CNN came up with a talking point on Saturday about Never Trumper Cheney, the Wyoming congresswoman who is unlikely to hold on to her U.S. House seat in 2022, having a mythical “lane” to run for president in 2024, Sen. Cruz quipped on Twitter, “Yes. it’s called the Democratic primary.”

Cheney self-righteously responded online to the Texas politician, “I know you’re posturing for the secessionist vote, Ted. But my party, the Republican party, saved the Union. You swore an oath to the Constitution. Act like it.”

When lame-duck Kinzinger (R-Ill.), the other Pelosi-appointed, anti-Trump, pro-impeachment Republican on the January 6 investigatory committee, chimed in with a zinger, as it were —  “Damn son, Liz brought the heat on you” — Cruz showed that he wasn’t done.

In referring to Cheney and Kinzinger, Ted Cruz articulated what a lot of people are probably thinking: “These two need to hurry up and get their bottom-rated @msnbc show.”

As Cruz alluded, both MSNBC and CNN provide homes for Republicans who collect a check or get face time for criticizing other Republicans, which conjures up the Cold War-era term “useful idiots” for those operating in the media and/or in Congress.

Or similar to the way it’s done in professional wrestling, a.k.a. sports entertainment, when, to advance a storyline, a “babyface” (i.e., a good guy or girl) abruptly becomes a “heel” (bad guy), usually in the middle of the ring.

Journalist Mollie Hemingway has noted the incongruity of the Trump-loathing Cheney — previously ousted from her House Republican leadership position — simultaneously purportedly serving as a ranking member of the J6 committee as a Republican while operating as the vice-chair of the panel for the Democrats, resulting in no actual GOP representation in the investigation.

Common sense suggests perhaps that the partisan committee will issue a report around the time of the 2022 midterms that blames ex-President Donald Trump for the chaos at the Capitol.

Swalwell, was one of the elected officials who relentless pushed the Russia collusion hoax and allegedly spends campaign cash on a lavish lifestyle, subsequently tweeted to his new pal Kinzinger, “Adam, if you want @tedcruz’s support you’re going to have to attack his wife.”

That remark may have been a callback to the 2016 presidential campaign when Cruz and Donald Trump were intense, if not bitter, rivals for the GOP nomination, and the latter was accused of insulting Heidi Cruz.

Swalwell has a something of a not-so-swell history of self-owns.

Apart from die-hard liberals on Twitter — and there are many of them — who are definitely not on Team Ted, social-distancing-advocate Swalwell, who enjoys riding camels maskless and shirtless, at least, on one occasion anyway, is getting roasted on the social media platform.

Here is just a sample (*warning for language):
