Social media and even mainstream media expressed shock at a video that showed an assault right in the middle of a high school basketball game.
The victim’s mother, Alice Ham, posted a video to social media that was recorded at a game in Garden Grove, California. In the footage, you can see the attacker missing a three-point shot before bumping into another player on defense, who happened to be Ham’s 15-year-old daughter. The two teens then walk down the court before Ham’s daughter is slugged by the other player in the head, knocking her to the ground.
Ham said she was infuriated by the violent incident on court, telling Fox11 Los Angeles that “once [her daughter’s] teammate showed me the clip, I was absolutely horrified, shocked, just completely disgusted by what I saw.”
Worse still, Ham alleges that the other teen’s mom urged her daughter to hit her daughter after missing the shot. “The mother on the video can be heard, ‘You need to hit her for that,'” Ham said.

Ham told Fox11 that her daughter has been unable to attend class since being assaulted on the court. Fox reported that Ham had said to other outlets that her daughter was out as part of the regular protocol for concussion.
There has been no apology for the attack, Ham told Fox, either from the actual attacker or her mother, claiming that the two have shown “no remorse for their reprehensible behavior.”
The identity of the attacker has not been disclosed by the mainstream press due to the fact that she is believed to be a minor. However, KABC-TV reported that the attacker is the daughter of a former NBA player, but this has not been confirmed elsewhere.
Regardless of public identification, Ham wants the law to step in, and said that she hopes Todd Spitzer, Orange County District Attorney, will go forward with pressing assault and battery charges against the attacking teen girl.
A statement was issued by Avac United, the organization that arranged the youth basketball game, in which it apologized for the incident and said it will ban the offending teen from future games, along with her mother:
“We take these matters seriously and have taken action to ban this player and her mother from participating in, and or attending any future tournaments hosted by our organization. This type of behavior is never condoned by us and does not represent who we are or what we strive to teach our children.”
As of writing, there is no information on any legal action pending.
